Would you place Dragonball in your top 10 anime list?

Discussion regarding the entirety of the franchise in a general (meta) sense, including such aspects as: production, trends, merchandise, fan culture, and more.

I just remembered a few additional series (TTGL, FMA, Ouran, Detective Conan, Ranma, Trigun, XXXHolic) that I'd rank fairly highly, but I've already posted my 10. :(
Ah well.

Easily number one. That's why I'm here on this forum, right? But my anime/manga experience is pretty miniscule:

1) Dragon Ball
2) One Piece
3) Neon Genesis Evangelion
4) Afro Samurai
5) Naruto (Pre-Time Skip)
6) Katekyoushi Hitman Reborn
7) Gantz

DB is definitely #1 for me. I don't know that I can give you a top 10, but I can tell you that Naruto and Bleach are the closest to the top. I also love Death Note, Gintama, and various others, but it would be difficult to come up with a definite list.

Dragonball has so much in it for me on a personal level that it will never be knocked off my top spot.
I'd go further and say its my favorite TV show of all time, but as we're here discussing anime here's my list.

1)Dragonball
2)Neon Genesis Evangelion
3)One Piece
4)Mobile Suit Gundam
5)Hokuto No Ken
6)Bubblegum Crisis/Crash
7)Angel Sanctuary
8)Rurouni Kenshin
9)Eureka Seven
10)She, The Ultimate Weapon

I must point out that about half of that list is from reading the respective manga series.
I don't watch much anime these days.

I would. And I did view a lot of other series.
Not one of them caught my interest as much as DBZ did.

I've only seen about 12 anime anyway. Dragon Ball is definitely Number 1.

1. Dragon Ball
2. Cardcaptor Sakura
3. One Piece
4. Lucky Star
5. Death Note
6. Suzumiya Haruhi no Yūutsu
7. Digimon
8. Demashita! Powerpuff Girls Z
9. Karin
10. Bleach

For reference, the other two are Bishōjo Senshi Sailor Moon and Pocket Monsters.

I don't like to lock things down to a specific list, because you'll never know when something new will come around to knock something else on your list out of its comfy little slot.
But yes, I would definitely include the Dragonball franchise as one of my all-time favorites.

I'm confused in how the general assumtion seems to be "If you are into Dragonball/Z and on the internet, you must therefore have experience with other anime/manga series". It's been this way at least since I first found DB-related internet communities in 2002, and given what I've learned of the history of the series and the internet since, probably before as well.

Really, the only anime I've seen has been on CN (and Nick JR back in the day, apparently. ), and I had a friend that showed me .hack//sign in Japanese my senior year of highschool.
So yeah, of the... maybe ten altogether anime I've seen, DB/Z wins. I was hooked on Detective Conan/CaseClosed from the first time I heard the FUNi intro at 4 in the morning... from a different room from the TV... but that kinda fell apart, since I immediately thereafter wound up at a residential highschool and the series stopped airing and *blargble*.
... FMA is cool, too. ^_^. And Sailor Moon, I s'ppose.

But yeah, other than Sailor Moon, DB is the only anime I've had a long-term exposure to, so I'd put it more with similar not-so-japanese shows I've seen lots of.
I don't know if DB/Z is the top of my all time list... but it has most certainly had a huge impact on my life, and I don't really frequent (or really even bother with...) communities for other series (Power Rangers and Sentai communities alike I can't get into. Either it's the horrible typing bleargh-fests, or the otaku explosia {*points to first paragraph of post*}... Doesn't do much for me.).

I will say though that for a couple - three or so years I followed a certain Starwars fansite... but I question whether it qualifies as a community, and I somehow failed to keep up with it after Episode 3 came out.

Ahem. So talking entertainment franchises in general? DB/Z is decidedly in the top ten. Top five or three, I should hope... but I don't like ranking and picking favorites and such, so nya. :P

My Top 10 list shifts rather often as new things come out and gain more relevance... it looks like this right now

1: One Piece
2: Hellsing (OVA, not the Crappy TV series)
3: Dragon Ball/Z (no GT)
4: Yu Yu Hakusho
5: Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann
6: Cowboy Bebop
7: Trigun/Maximum
8: Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood
9: Death Note
10: Ranma 1/2

Hard to put numerical values, so I'll just make them up as I remember the shows, but yeah it's top 10 for me.

1. Yu Yu Hakusho
2. Cowboy Bebop
3. Fighting Spirit/Hajime No Ippo
4. DragonBall/Z
5. Full Metal Panic/Fumoffu/Second Raid
6. School Rumble
7. Hellsing OVAs
8. Neon Genesis Evangelion
9. Bleach
10. Dunno. Haven't seen much else other than stuff from Toonami back in the day. I do want to watch Full Metal Alchemist, Ranma 1/2 and Ruroni Kenshin, though. You know what? I'll put Zoids: New Century Zero here.

BUSSTTTERRRRRRRRR SLAAAAAASH!!
Not a problem.

1.) Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann
2.) Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam
3.) King of Braves GaoGaiGar
4.) Cowboy Bebop
5.) Yu Yu Hakusho
6.) Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z
7.) Fist of the North Star
8.) One Piece
9.) Guyver (The recent one, haven't seen the OVAs)
10.) School Rumble

That's roughly how I would number my list, though admittedly, I often switch between Zeta Gundam and Gurren Lagann. I'm just a sucker for Mecha and Shounen anime. Though when it comes to anything Shounen, I mostly prefer the manga equivalents mostly because it's the original creation, I know I'm going to be in for a long story, and I find the art more genuine compared to its anime counterparts (with the exception of Yu Yu Hakusho. Togashi's art is mostly a lot of scribble). Dragon Ball is not an exception. Toriyama's artwork is miles better than anything Toei did. And, of course, we all know of the anime's pacing.

On my favorite list? Hell yes. On my top ten most influential list? Hell yes. On my top ten best made list? Sadly, not quite. But it'd be close.

Anyway since everyone's doing it my top ten favorites:

10. Tenchi Muyo (the OVA series)
9. Solty Rei
8. Slayers (all 3 and probably the 4th season when I see it)
7. Rurouni Kenshin
6. Big O
5. Fullmetal Alchemist
4. Mobile Suit Gundam SEED
3. Bleach
2. Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann

aaand (as if you need to guess at this point)

1. Dragon Ball
