Family members try to make my feel bad about liking Dragon Ball, but that doesn't get me down.

People I know in college don't seem to mind, but they'd talk about how cool watching it on TV it used to be. Then ask about censorship and I'd explain eeeeeeeverything.

Guys my age hold Dragon Ball Z in high regard, as a show from their childhood that they'll never see again, by the way, they're totally unaware of the American DVDs.

Sheesh. Sounds like some of you guys need to get good at something and build some self-esteem. Because this is kind of pathetic.

I like what I like, and I do what I want. But, I'm smarter and richer than everyone around me and I don't act like an total prick about it, so no one can say "YOU'RE DOING IT WRONG!!" Because if they do that, then what have they got? Their Facebook friends?

There's no problem with think about what you like obsessively and all the time. But do it while you're actually doing something useful that people will recognize you for.

Since I recently watched Fight Club again, this portion of your post makes me imagine you as Edward Norton.

So, does your recent accident keep you completely from doing anything physical? I mean, there are guys in their 80s and people with very apparent physical disabilities who still practice Karate. In fact, I know a kid who needs a walker most of the time and he practices Isshinryu Karate. He even made it into the USA Martial Arts Hall of Fame for enduring his disabilities and continuing to train.

Don't give up.

It's not recent, and I'm afraid to make the injure worse. I can do physical things but my knees get tired really easily, so even if I practice, can't be for too long.

Anyway, I'm sorry if I sounded kinda of a downer but, I don't know, I think I've just been spazzing out a bit lately. I shouldn't come here and just vomit my troubles to all of you, a bunch of people that I don't even know, but hey! At least no harm can come from exposing my weaknesses! Also, the trouble about being just an average guy, well, most people around my age gap suffer from the same as me, I just don't have a single clue about what I want to do with my life, the opportunities are endless and I can do pretty much whatever I want, so I don't know what to do. Maybe I'll chase my dream of opening a night club! :P

Just keep it Super Shonen and never give up. Learn from the things that entertain you and use them to inspire you toward something you want.

So here's the thing:

For those of you who have had girlfriends and such that make fun of you for liking DBZ, you need a NEW girlfriend. My girlfriend and i have been together for more than 4 years not and she doesn't like anime AT ALL. But she somehow loves the fact that I do. She thinks my collections and my interest is cool and she knows it's apart of me and she excepts that.

The thing is I think we just need to surround ourselves with friends and people who will accept us for what we like, otherwise they aren't really good friends, right?

Sometime's i feel guilty for liking a children's cartoon but i just think about how its almost an art to me.

I dunno.

Or just a real girlfriend in general.

What kind of friend insults you for who you are and what you like?

Absolutely, I'd agree! Thus the reason I don't have a boyfriend yet. Some people think I'm absurdly picky, but unless the guy at least respects/tolerates my love of dorky things like comics, anime, video games, then he ain't the one.

(I would REALLY love to have a boyfriend who would sit down and play the games with me, or watch Dragon Ball with me, and would encourage me in my artwork... but I know asking for that is asking a lot in my small circle of friends....I don't get out enough anyways...)

We can be friends and watch DBZ together ;) haha. Yeah I pretty much watch it alone, unless I can get my 14 year old sister to watch it with me haha.

What is the use to care about what others might think of you and what you like? It is a total waste of time and energy, if you ask me.
That is entirely untrue. Professionally, you have to project an image of a completely grown-up individual who only cares for cigars and easy women. And I've only met a few anime fans I'd ever want to spend my free time with.
Wow, if you are serious, I feel pity for you and other people that are like yourself, people that feel trapped in a false world full of stinky images. Be yourself, and be proud of it, is my motto. Why should anyone have to hide who they are? If you are a person that cares for your self, as well as others, whatever you like to do has nothing at all to say. But I guess this world is full of deeming others, which is very sad. And your comment about "anime fans"... Who exactly is an "anime fan"? I am a person that likes a variety of activities; fishing, mountain trips, football (generally sports involving a use of balls), anime, cooking, be sociable and challenge myself to new activities.

I felt bad at a time since a lot of my friends were moving on from DBZ and were getting into other anime. I tried that route for several years and when I realized that the majority of anime was absolute crap, I embraced DBZ once again.

Yeah, one of my best mates sometimes teases me for only reading Toriyama's works (which is untrue), yet he doesn't read much more than that, he only reads marvel and shounen jump. At least I try to read books and other type of manga besides shounen. Heck, I'm watching Oz at the moment.

I guess I'm blaming Dragon Ball for no good reason actually...

I've felt guilty about spending so much money on things related to Dragon Ball when I probably could have done something more useful for my family. But I don't recall ever feeling bad about being a fan. I'm proud to be one.

New girlfriend why?

Its impossible to like absolutely everything about someone. Everyone has flaws and relative flaws. Relative flaws are flaws that we consider flaws but someone else doesn`t consider it a flaw and vice versa.

And so, Dragon Ball can perfectly be a relative flaw to the eyes of the girlfriend or she might simply don`t care. It is not important.

What is important is that the couple like and love each other for who they are, flaws and all, and making fun of you doesn`t imply that the girlfriend doesn`t love or like you if, by the end of the day, she accepts who you are.

So, again, new girlfriend why?

Only if she was trying to change who you are forcefully who would need a new girlfriend.

Well, should you really be with someone if they aren't accepting of who you are and what you like? Surely you couldn't be yourself if you were with someone like that. That's all I'm saying.

And surely you don`t like and/or agree with all and every of your girlfriend`s tastes and opinions about everything.

Expecting that to happen is a sure way to kill a relationship, because nobody is that alike.

Like I said, that only is a problem if the girlfriend tries to change who you are forcefully. Besides that, you simply can not expect her to agree with everything you like and think. And that includes Dragon Ball.

I have never felt bad or guilty about liking Dragon Ball. How can you feel guilty about something that you like? I don't feel guilty about DB occasionally taking up my time. I don't feel guilty about sitting here for ages on this forum discussing DB with my fellow DB fans. It's an escape for me, because I can actually talk freely about Dragon Ball with fans who are just as interested in it as me, without someone faking a snore.
Like a lot of people on this forum, people always seem to give me stick for liking "a kid's cartoon". Even some of my friends. But now my friends have accepted my love of DB. Yeah, they make the odd joke (like, whenever I get mad or something, they say "Watch out! He's gonna do a Kamehameha!"), but it's all fun. I have a friend who likes different kinds of manga -- Dragon Ball, Naruto, Bleach...he gets the mickey taken out of him when he's looking at them online, but he doesn't care. Which is good. No-one should ever make you feel guilty for liking Dragon Ball. And these are the people who still watch "Spongebob Squarepants".

That's not the point though. We're just saying that if you have a "girlfriend" who makes fun of you and puts you down for liking something, even to the point of "threatening" to break up with you because of what you like, then she isn't really your friend now is she?

You can be in a relationship with somebody and not like everything the other likes, but a healthy relationship is an accepting one.

Couldn't have said it better myself. There's a difference between disagreeing and being a bitch.
