Is Piccolo... Piccolo?
This is something I've been considering recently. Is Piccolo the same Piccolo he was pre-fusion?
Toriyama created a massive plot hole when he had Piccolo fuse. I'll explain...
Piccolo+Nail
Major additions: Knowledge and power.
Minor additions: Protectiveness towards Dende. Greater interest and loyalty to his race.
Notes: Nail assured Piccolo that he would remain the same. The only change would be an increase in power. However, after the first fusion, Piccolo's temper waned a bit and he became less arrogant, showing that Nail perhaps had more influence than he told Piccolo of.
Piccolo+Kami
Major additions: Knowledge and power.
Minor additions: See notes.
Notes: This is where it becomes confusing. After fusing, Piccolo says that he is neither Piccolo nor Kami, just a Nameksei-jin that has long since forgotten his name. Huh? He did the same fusion he did with Kami, using himself as the base and Kami as the catalyst. Is he the original Piccolo now? Since he's refusing his birth name? Is he a combination of three people, no longer any single one? He claims to Cell that he's not the demon Piccolo and that he's now "wise" (?). Then, later, he reverts back to pre-fusion Piccolo. Fond of Gohan, referring to himself by his name, racing for power, being grumpy, etc...
Did Toriyama discard the original idea in favor of old Piccolo? Did he forget? It's rather confusing.
I've stuck with the idea that Piccolo's the same old guy, even after the fusions (which I really don't like). Any thoughts?

I guess the Nail/Piccolo and Kami/Piccolo fusions are different. The Nail one was Piccolo in a sense absorbing Nail for knowledge and power, whereas the one with Kami was an actual fusion. I always thought he became the original warrior he/they were before, but Piccolo's countenance remained the same, so it was just easier to call him Piccolo. What's confusing is that Piccolo said he would remain the dominant personality...but I guess they just returned to their original self.
I was voted "most unique" and "most likely to become the next existential thinker" in high school.

Well I believe that even though Nail said he would keep his identity, I found having Nail's essence in him changed him a little. After all, he now had all of Nail's memories of Namek and what happened. Remember how he knew about Saichoro without being told? And I found it softened him a little. He was still pretty much the same gruff Piccolo though. After he merged with Kami, I guess he became completely good. Actually to the point that he was even a pushover sometimes. During the Buu saga, if Trunks and Goten had acted like that with him during his days back with Raditz and such, he would have slit their throats. Just like he threatened to do to Gohan if he didn't stop crying after he kidnapped him. Poor Piccolo.

Jerseymilk: "Can I tell you something?"
B-kun: "What?"
Jerseymilk: "I see Fangirls."
B-kun: "What?"

I think what it was is that Piccolo was still adjusting to being merged with Kami again. A sort of identity crisis, where Kami still had a greater presence in him. After a bit Kami's influence subsided a bit and he became more like the Piccolo he was before.

<Xyex> Original Freeza never sounded like a chick to me.
<Kaboom> Neither does Rita
<Xyex> Good point.
