Better Sound Quality on Original Run of DBZ in Japan

Naw, he just likes to act this way. Haven't you just been an ass for fun? xP
i always thought this was an interesting topic, and if there's something to add - or questions unanswered - I think necroposting's all right. I doubt betamax tapes would sound that much better, what with deterioration and all. Still, it's a very interesting offer and hopefully if TOEi does not take him up on this offer then maybe he'll release a few files.
For all the flack that FUNimation gets on this forum for their quote about DBZ, there's some modicum of truth to it: a 9-year-old is born every day. Or in some cases, "reborn". DBZ may be a kids' show, but it's been so close to so many hearts all over Japan, America, and quite possibly, even the world.
Sometimes they just take forever to reply. I asked them a question once and they took a couple months to reply. I really hope they reply though, 'cause I'd love a release of Dragon Ball that has clear audio!kei17 wrote:Sorry for necro-posting again. I have a good piece of news.
I found a man who has the entire DB series (includes TV specials) on Betamax tapes. He said he was willing to provide these tapes to Toei Animation for the next release ithat might come. Now the only problem is Toei itself. They have been ignoring my questions about the sound quality on DBOX releases. I have already sent a mail to Toei about this offer, but they are not likely to send a reply to me, I think.

Even though I am not positive they will re-release DB Z GT, why don't we start a petition, get maaaaaaany fans to sign it, and print multiple copies that we send Toei Animation via snail mail? They might read real mail more seriously than e-mails?linkdude20002001 wrote:Sometimes they just take forever to reply. I asked them a question once and they took a couple months to reply. Toei finally gave me the reply.
As you have suggested, the idea that the audio on videotaped original run is better than digitalized materials from the master films has been around for some time, and we have been in discussions over it. We are going to continue to focus on remedying the old materials and pursuing the the quality of the original air. We look forward to your continued coaching.

今後ともご指南の程、よろしくお願いします。

Oh Knuts!!! I didn't expect them to use the tapes anyhow...
Unfortunate still...

Well, hopefully they weren't just being polite and are actually addressing the issue. Forgive me for being pessimistic, but given how many companies work (LUCASFILM!!!!!), I wouldn't be shocked if that's the case.

Does this mean that they plan on re-release DB Z GT in some kind of format?kei17 wrote:Toei finally gave me the reply.

Re: Better Sound Quality on Original Run of DBZ in Japan
anyone know if the broadcast will be really used for public release for a public access or will this treasure be only in private hand ?
if really these audio will be public it will be good to give news about the project......it is really frustrating to know that one person (kei17) have a wonderful luck to have in his hand all dbz in a wonderful quality that even toei doesn't want to sell it or funimation........doesn't want to share with public ...
it's not aggressiv or bad but we (the others) cannot buy release with these audio......
kei if you read this can you please give some news if the public release will really exist or if you will be the only one to have them?
thand a lot

It will be a privately owned thing. The only way you'll be able to get your hands on it, is to do the hard work and just put out feelers to track down original recordings yourself. Keep searching and just put in the hard yards to find them. It's the only way.genjosanzo8 wrote:anyone know if the broadcast will be really used for public release for a public access or will this treasure be only in private hand ?

i dont think kei is a selfish person to not share these thing that he had with help....
it is not a hard work question because he can have the only one episode in broadcast audio....if no official release will exist it was very very hating thing to talk about things that no other can have....what is the meaning .....if anyone have the episode he will be happy to have it.....it sadistic to tell other i have things that cannot be found and dont share it.....but i think or hope that kei will share them with funi or other wayto tell other

Re: Better Sound Quality on Original Run of DBZ in Japan
I'm sure the plan is that FUNi obtains the audio and releases on a release... however I can't see another release from FUNi coming out anytime soon considering the Blu-ray season sets seem like they will be the go-to purchase for DBZ for a while, maybe a limited blu-ray transfer of the Dragon Boxes??? But even then, FUNi likely has to gain approval from Toei to use the audio, which isn't likely in itself. It's no impossible but I wouldn't count on it happening anytime soon unfortunately.genjosanzo8 wrote:i dont think kei is a selfish person to not share these thing that he had with help....

It's very unlikely for Funimation to publish because it would mean a foreign company would have a superior release than Toei's and Toei wouldn't allow that.

Not strictly true. Funimation's Kai DVDs were superior to the TOEI version, so it can happen.Iberian_Saiyan wrote:It's very unlikely for Funimation to publish because it would mean a foreign company would have a superior release than Toei's and Toei wouldn't allow that.
Do you have any info about international non-English broadcasts about the Dragon Ball anime or manga translations/editions? Please message me. Researching for a future book with Dragon Ball scholar Derek Padula

Re: Better Sound Quality on Original Run of DBZ in Japan
so why don't make these audio public? what is the meaning to tell "i have all the épisode in the broadcast quality which will probably never be released on dvd or blu-ray" and just guard it for yourself?Iberian_Saiyan wrote:It's very unlikely for Funimation to publish because it would mean a foreign company would have a superior release than Toei's and Toei wouldn't allow that.
for the owner of these audio tracks.....have they found them all by themself? all record themself? they were happy that other people share with them ....if they were selfish these audio they weren't caught these audio...... i hate the most people that ask for other to have things but after guard only for themself........
i don't think kei is this kind of selfish person who love taunt others ..... what is the reason that make you stop to want make public these audio?
for the people who will tell that they are the uploader ? you know that you are the lucky one to have found them, nobody will be reliable if they tell that were them who have found them.....
if it were opposite and if it was me that have all these audio and only guard for me....how did you feel? ....don't forget that at the start you were like other of us....if you make public only the audio not sync to vidéo because toei don't want to release them did you think it is a problem? you have the power to make a real change of the situation....by making them public you can force the toei to released better version than yours with these audio.....while by guard for yourself they don't have to make another release.....
all of us will be very grateful if you want to make them public....official or not but not make these treasure in the shadows..... you are a true fan of dragon ball , you have the graal ....you have done hard job it'is sure to collect all you have ....but what's the meaning for if you are the only one to have it...? treasure are to be shared
so if you read this please answer to all of the fan the reason for unreleased them ?
kei it is not aggressive i know that the fact to have it caused intempestive spam on your pm and that you don't want to others stole your work but we are all fan of dragon ball....imagine that you can be the head of the most wonderful release of dragon ball in the world......a real honor for these manga?
what i can give to be at your place!!!!!!!!

Re: Better Sound Quality on Original Run of DBZ in Japan
Picture quality wise it was a bit inferior to the Japanese Toei home release and by the fourth part that was the end of the road for the original broadcast music so please explain how Funi's Kai version was better. The aspect ratio on the Japanese DVDs (widescreen) was a plus and wish Funi would have used that too.Dragon Ball Ireland wrote:Not strictly true.
