That was the funniest, most random reference the dub ever made!

Were kids of the late 90's supposed to get a reference from a 70's TV series?
It's a pretty famous reference. I totally got it. It's right up there with "I pity the fool."
Also remember, about 5 years earlier we were watcvhing Animaniacs do the same thing with making references and jokes your parents would get, but kids might not. Heck, they even used a plot point and twist from a G.I. Joe episode.

Kunzait is going to have a super awesome write up on this. I can't wait for it.
The series doesn't start with the arrival of Raditz. Stop being lazy and watch Dragonball.

Well, Animaniacs was also made by Warner Bros. and Steven Spielberg.

I am pretty sure Godzilla appeared in the table of contents in one of the DragonBall mangas. I can't check to make sure though because I dont have a copy of that manga. :(

Despite having no idea what the dub dialogue actually was, I'm sure I'm safe in saying it was along the lines of, "We can rebuild him. We have the technology."

It's October... I'm done with the first GT set.

Now, I'm watching the second, and in the episode Baby transforms into the Golden Oozaru, Mr. Satan says: "What is this? Planet of the Apes?!" ((NOTE: The line is from the original))

Hah! It wasn't just "along the lines," it was word-for-word!

Cold: "Status report, doctor?"
Doctor: "Your Highness, we are working on Lord Freeza around the clock, and I am confident that we can rebuild him. We have the technology to make him faster, stronger, and in every way more powerful than he was before."
BGM forever! If only more people paid attention to it... well, I intend to change that.

Another part of the intro goes, "Better than he was before. Better. Stronger. Faster."

Thinking of this makes me wish that Funimation could've had outtakes where they slow down Freeza firing a blast at Trunks and added the $6,000,000 Man sound effects. Would've been funny.

I'm in the generation of fans that started with Toonami, so I totally empathize with the feeling of having "missed the party", experiencing disappointment, and wanting to experience it myself. But I can't, that's how life is. Time is a bitch. The party is over. Kageyama, Kikuchi, and Maeda are off the sauce now; Yanami almost OD'd; Yamamoto got arrested; Toriyama's not going to light trash cans on fire and hang from the chandelier anymore. We can't get the band back together, and even if we could, everyone's either old, in poor health, or calmed way the fuck down. Best we're going to get, and are getting, is a party that's almost entirely devoid of the magic that made the original one so awesome that we even want more.

I will. Every time I read one of your posts it makes me want to start. I never would have thought it'd be something that I'd be interested in until I read your comparisons and mentionings. So I've been keeping an eye out, but I don't know where to start. I watched a movie called Ong Bak Warrior and it was awesome (the fighting anyway, the plot was kind of stupid). Can you give me some suggestions. Where should I start? Which movies had a strong influence on Dragon Ball in particular?

I'm sure it Dub Only; but in the [I'm assuming] the filler where we first see Krillin's girlfriend Marron, he is in that white suit and says something and Gohan Says' Thats the worst Humphrey Bogart impression I've ever heard.'

It was quite out of place, but a reference none the less.

Gohan did speak the truth. It was one of the worst Bogart impressions ever.

I had a good laugh when there was an episode of Dragonball that spoofed the Golden Harvest opening logo thingy. They even used the same tune!

Aah yes, I remember that one. That line was kinda stolen in van Damme's Bloodsport by Bolo Yeung (who also happened to play in Enter the Dragon), but in stead of boards he said bricks, ''Bricks don't hit back''.

I just read through volume 3 today, and I realized the guy Kuririn fought in the preliminaries looks a lot like Bruce Lee.

Watch all the bruce lee movies for starters. Its a good place to start.

Then move on to other well known movies and artists, and finally to less known ones.

In the anime, that huge guy Kuririn faces in his first preliminary match seems very similar to Andre the Giant
