To be honest, I blame bad parenting. It isn't the kids fault that the book is rated 'Teens' and the parent didn't want him to read it, she should have returned the book instantly, instead of causing a huge fuss.
This is what I hate about parenting in America, at least current ones, who seem to prefer blaming the product itself, rather than their own ignorance.
The 'beauty pageants' is something I also find to be quite disgusting. Its setting up young girls into believing that looks are everything and possibly even a rule to be led by, rather than let their own merits and albilities guide them. I am thankful in the least to have friends who don't obsess over their appearence to the point of stupidity.

What was the manga doing in a public school library in the first place? Shouldn't the school board or librarian be aware of what sort of content the kids will be looking at? Morality and culture aside, nobody is at fault here but those in charge. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to know that SOMEBODY'S not going to want to have their child look at a naked boy doing flying jump kicks or a sixteen year old girl showing an old man her shwingshwong.
Hey, it's nice to have a little controversy stir up the fanbase though

Naruto and Bleach are big but they are off the radar. Weird right?Hellspawn28 wrote:This reminds back in 1999 or 2000 when some people said that DBZ was too violent for TV and how it should be taken off. You would think people would say the same about Naruto or Bleach by now.
I take it you don't really live in the South do you?Rocketman wrote:Being polite and welcoming to one's visitors is holding the US back?TheGreatness25 wrote:I think this is what's holding the US back.
"southern hospitality,"
The series doesn't start with the arrival of Raditz. Stop being lazy and watch Dragonball.
...which of course raises the question if it should be rated "teen" in the first place (no). Hell, the kid was 9, and it's rated "ages 9 and up" here.ThegreatPirateKing wrote:To be honest, I blame bad parenting. America is not The Netherlands. The series is kid-friendly in Japan, but more for teens in America. Culturally, America is more conservative, so stardards are going to be different. If a teen label gets us the story uncut, than so be it.Adamant wrote:...which of course raises the question if it should be rated "teen" in the first place (no). An you are amazed by that??? You know that US school system is already horrible and it's really easy to study there + Dick Cheney said in interview long time ago about 11/9, that there is lot of things that most of US citizens don't know, because they aren't accustomed to read in daily life.....Innagadadavida wrote:What was the manga doing in a public school library in the first place? I don't get it after all....... Don't you think that I'm against USA or something, I think that 90% (maybe more) of people population on this planet are selfish, arrogant and dumb idiots, but why is the USA that much against the Dragon Ball??? I saw lot of censorship and Germany is maybe the worst in the world about this, but why there is a lot of such incidents with anime in USA.
And not only with anime, it looks like those parents are crazy idiots, what kind of people will grow ou of their children???
Every day I'm happy that I'm member of forum like this, which is full of intelligent and amazing people.

I don't like people pulling books from library shelves because other people don't approve of the book. That's censorship and it rubs me the wrong way. >_>
Couldn't they have just moved the dragon ball volumes from the children's section to the teen section of the library? I mean, there's a big label on the back--at least of the volumes I own--that reads T +13.
