Question about video splitters.

Hello everyone,

Hope this isn't off topic. It is related to a DB project I am planning.

I know that many people here are familiar with movie editors and other tools.

What I am currently looking forward is a good splitter tool. One that can cut out parts from a movie file and be saved.

The files I'm working with are MKV (although the properties show it as .mp4)

I have already downloaded Avidemux but whenever I try to split something the audio and video get out of sync.

Are there any other free tools out there? Thus far my searches have found tools that don't work with this format or have some limit such as half time or watermark.

AviSynth will read those as sources... then you can feed it into something popular like VirtualDubMod to save it to another format (although, if you know how to edit the AVISynth script, VirtualDubMod can be skipped).

Google those two 1)AviSynth and 2)VirtualDubMod ... you might want a good set of codecs installed as well (ffdshow tryouts) or an all in one solution (cccp) to make sure AVISynth will read all of your files.

Once I learned AVISynth scripting, nothing else really mattered.

Obligatory statement about not downloading your video sources for video editing and working with DVD footage so you don't have to worry about constant lossless re-encodes and frame-serving formats that were never intended to be edited with in the first place.
