Lol, they're not gonna recast anyone they're able to get ahold of.

Well, I personally would hope they'd overhaul the whole cast and finally give us a dub with good voices and a good script. But somehow, I doubt they would ever do that.

It would be nice to at least have an English dub Goku that isn't painful to listen to. And maybe a Freeza who doesn't sound like a creepy transvestite.

Wanted to repost this and see if I could get some feedback, I suppose.

Son Family:
Young Goku - Brina Palencia
Older Goku - Todd Haberkorn
Young Gohan - Brina Palencia/Maxey Whitehead

Humans:
Bulma - Laura Bailey/Colleen Clinkenbeard
Tenshinhan - John Burgmeir
Yamcha - Jerry Jewel
Chaotzu - Monika Antonelli
Young Krillin - Cynthia Cranz/Laurie Steele
Krillin - Chris Cason/Greg Ayres

Otherworld:
King Kai - Brice Armstrong

Saiyans:
Vegeta - John Gremillion/Travis Willingham/J. Michael Tatum/Troy Baker/Chris Patton
Nappa - George Manley
Raditz - Patrick Seitz

Piccolo - Travis Willingham/John Gremillion/Chris Sabat (With a new voice)

Freeza and his gang:
Freeza - Vic Mignogna/J.Michael Tatum/Chuck Huber
Zarbon - Eric Vale
Dadoria - Chris Forbis

Ginyu Force:

Recoome - Bryan Massey

Honestly, though, they most probably won't recast anyone. I think it's asking a lot for them to even completely re-script it appropriately.

It's good to hope though.

I was actually thinking Troy Baker for Freeza or Vegeta, but that looks like a pretty solid cast right there (although I would sort o' like for the Sons to played by one actor).

She can do a pretty decent boy voice! She was Onion in One Piece. Though, I'll admit Laurie Steele was pretty great as well.

I'd have Brina Palencia as Goku at all ages, as well as Gohan and Goten, like Masako Nozawa.

Personally, I'd love to see Kate Oxley thrown in there somewhere (Pan, maybe?)

I've never visited ANN's Australian variation before, but I did just now, and I found this. I went through the past pages of the thread I'm typing in atm and since I see no signs of this being mentioned, even though its a couple months old it may have just slipped under the radar due to not being on the U.S. ANN site?
Link: http://www.animenewsnetwork.com.au/conv ... hris-sabat
ANN|AU: Dragon Ball Kai, have you heard of that?

Chris Sabat: I have, I don't know exactly how Funimation is going to handle it, but I do know that they're discussing right now exactly what the details are. but I do know they're leaning towards rewriting it and redubbing it completely from scratch.

ANN|AU: Which is what the Japanese have been doing, well, not rewriting it but redubbing it.

Chris Sabat: Well in Funimation's defense the scripts that came in originally for the Dragon Ball series was terrible. And it wasn't the scriptwriters fault, it was the translations we were getting, they were awful, so bad. They were just photocopied pages from the original Japanese translator and even the translations were in such Engrish we couldn't tell what was going on.

ANN|AU: It was very early days as far as dubbing anime was concerned.

Chris Sabat: It was the earliest days.

ANN|AU: Sailor Moon and Pokémon definitely predate that by a fairly significant time.

Chris Sabat: They do but maybe not on television.

ANN|AU: Over here they did.

Chris Sabat: Oh, ok, in America they were what Funimation was trying to do at first. And it was a noble process and it was trying to turn Dragon Ball Z into an American cartoon. That worked really well and I think it was part of Dragon Ball Z's success, but now that were given these options to redub it. Funimation I know, because Justin Cook is now the producer over there. They're really going to try and do it the way I think the Japanese would have intended, keep it very Japanese friendly, maybe recast some new people. We'll see.

ANN|AU: so they're definitely picking up the rights, that will be interesting.

Chris Sabat: I mean if it doesn't happen how I have said it, everything I say is subject to change and I don't work in house over there.
Bolded for emphasis. :3

I have to admit that the possibility for some recasts for Kai definitely peak my interest.

I'm hoping we'll get to hear the full name, "Son Goku" in Kai's Funi dub.

Funi, whenever you get to airing your dubbed Kai, I'd really like to see it on your TV channel or your YouTube channel.
On hiatus.

As far as the idea of recasting for Kai goes, I'd like to see some of the current cast stay such as Schemmel as Goku and Strait as Krillin, however I would very openly welcome the recasting of characters such as Bulma, Freeza and pretty much every minor and/or supporting character Chris Sabat plays.

I want to recast them all, Sabat should stay but without supporting 50 characters :D And I hate present US Goku, he sounds like hysteric woman, so they should change him as well.... Peter Kelamis was really good

Hmm... as far as I'm concerned, I don't think that's going to happen. If they're going to dub Kai, than they will almost certainly use their already established cast. Now, the reason I say that is because I believe that if Kai is dubbed, they are going to market it to thier main audience. Which is us dubbies. Now, you could argue that they alienated us with the Dragon Box, so I'll let that slide. However, I don't think FUNimatio would dare change the majority of the voices (like Freeza's, for example). We dubbies would be very angry with them if they did. If they do a redub, the most I think they'll do is replace most of the minor voices (As in, the ones voiced by Sabat).

Of course, that's just me.

I doubt that whole-heartedly.

If and when FUNimation dubs the series, I can pretty much guarantee they are going to dub it as they would any other modern show: keep the original dialogue (for the most part), keep the original music, and simply market it as what it is. Since it's all whored-up already with a moderate facelift and new soundtrack, they don't have to do it on their own and can just ride off of Japan's "new hotness" persona for the series. If they do this, it and its marketing can apply to every single last bit of the fanbase without further segmenting it all.

Of course, I've been plenty wrong about FUNimation and logical treatment of the franchise before, so what do I know...?! :D

I actually don't like this thing, it goes to dubbies in case of America.....
Because the US products are at 70% going to Europe as well, most of people understands english as second language and in UK and most of Europe, the releases are pretty bad or there is nothing, so if there isn't someone who can't speak Japanese the only possibility to get Dragon Ball and fully understand the language is from US.....

Funimation have a big chance to sell things at European market via internet, so with Kai they have opportunity to finally not to screw up Dragon Ball franchise.....
I'm not talking about VIZ...

In result, I started to prefer original japanese products from Japan.

Also, most of the videogames that'll get on Eropean market as European releases are just imports from US on 85% and in case of anime franchises, it's quite pain in ass sometimes, especially with Dragon Ball......

Welp, if what Mr. Sabat is saying is the truth, I would no doubt be estatic. He himself realizes the cons of the current dub and I can't wait to see how this turns out.

I do not like how he did Vegeta's voice for seasons 1-3 in the redub at all! If they redub Kai and he uses that voice I won't be able to stand watching it. I prefer Ocean for seasons 1 and 2. I could care less if they dub Kai or not since it's just a shortened version of what I've already seen. I have checked out a little bit of it online though. I definitely like the new opening theme and the graphics.

Assuming Sabat retained the Vegeta role, I'd prefer he used his natural voice like he does with most of his non-DB roles, unless he can blend into a little Zarbon...
