To change status from newbie, regular whatever to some of own creation?
I know it's possible in preferences on some message boards and some people here have it changed, but I don't see it in my preferences.....

No. The only way to change your rank is to post. A lot. There are a few special ranks, but those are given only by VegettoEX, and even then, it's usually because those people have done a lot for the community.
