The video claims if fans didn't go at each other's throats, the world would be made of sugar and Full House and it would be boring. This is a backwards statement. Civility isn't boring. Monotony is. Pretty much everyday here people(read: also me) bitch and moan which version of the show they like, who is stronger, what Toriyama said, how much Broly sucks, blah blah blah. And sometimes, it gets heated. And tiring. Same subject matter everyday. And yet, people are still dicking with each other. I thought dicks and assholes made the world interesting, 1UP guy?
I guess I won't go into specifics on this fandom as it will just go "DBOX thread" if someone does.

It works both ways. People need more moderation in their diets, too much of one thing becomes boring and mundane like you said. At the same time though, we need both to be happy. If we don't bitch, nothing gets fixed however if you bitch too much, you become an annoying asshole who nobody likes. People need to find the balance of debating and keeping civil, but that's never gonna happen.B wrote:The video claims if fans didn't go at each other's throats, the world would be made of sugar and Full House and it would be boring. Yea I know, and its a shame too. I am all for debating but I can't stand when people lose control and things become hostel. I lost 3 very enjoyable topics(one of which was a second attempt *coughDBOX*) because of stupid bickering.

Yeah, I'm right there with you, as I tend to view things on a philosophical level, I absolutely adore the idea of discussing disagreements with people, because it's the only way to learn new things. That doesn't mean you have to always be changing your mind either, if nothing else you learn new insights into why what you believe is right and/or what you don't believe is not. It's always a good thought experement.
That they are so often hijacked to thoughtless name calling, bickering, and closed mindedness is indeed quite a shame.
