DBGT: Final Bout

Post by Rocketman » Sat Feb 05, 2005 1:02 am

Am I the only one who likes this game? I just got the rerelease today, and I've been having a great time playing it.

There's been a constant war raging on between whether this is good or bad, and so far the amount of people who love it and hate it are equal. When I first got the game in 1999 I enjoyed it, but there's not much to keep you coming back.

How can there be a war weather something is good or bad? Nothing is every generaly good or bad, it's all about opinions.

It's nice game in my opninon with some obvious pro's and cons:

+cheap
+authentic voice actors
+Bebi Vegeta and Pan as characters (only game with these charactars
+really good music
+cool special moves
+meteo attacks
+characters say different things depending on the their opponent
+fantastic in and outros

-slow
-basicly just Butoden in 3D
-graphics aren't groundbreaking anymore
-about 543 different Goku's

Something I've found, though, is the controls are much more responsive than the SNES games or UB22. Hell, on UB22, I could mash the correct buttons all day long, and it almost never fired the Kamehameha or any other move.

The graphics and sound were good, likewise with the opening animation. The Build-Up mode was the game's saving grace and the way you didn't have to own a MultiTap to play the Tournament mode was a nice touch. But it just feels like a really small low-budget game, and it sometimes feels sad when you're playing it.

It was good. But even I could whip up a better collision detection in the freaking Games Factory in 10 minutes.

No joke, I used to play with a Bandaid on my thumb because I'd press down SO HARD on the d-pad trying to get the moves to work I'd wear all the skin down.

What was the freakin' point of rolling your finger across the D-Pad?! It hurt like Hell, especially if your skin is dry, and how the how were you meant to pull off those attacks that involved holding both left and right? The PSX's D-Pad is shoddy at best.

Blisters caused by Dragon Ball Z games is a well known fact here. We had that problems ever since the first DBZ "action games" were released in France.

I used to play with tape around my thumb and I wasn't the only one doing that.

Hurray for Budokai.
The résistance dies but never gives up.

Ah, the Capcom thumb. XD One health problem I gladly suffer through. Just keep on playing and you'll become immune to it!

"Capcom thumb." I remember explaining that syndrome to a friend in grade school.

"EEEEEEEEW!! What's that big bulge growing out of the right side of your thumb?!"
"Nonono: What you think the thumb is is in reality a blister. The "bulge" as you put it is my actual thumb having tripled in size as a result of playing too many video games manufactured by Capcom. Fellow Street Fighter II Turbo-ers and myself refer to this condition as "Capcom Thumb.""

More responsive than Hyper Dimension? I think not.
... Maybe later.

I'm a Capcom junkie and I never had any problems with my thumb until UB22.

There was that one time I sliced my thumb open on a broken bottle at work and played in a Mario Party tournament the next day...

I hope they either sanitized that controller or threw it away.

+authentic voice actors
Ummm... riiiiight.

Anyway, the only DBZ game(s) to ever give me blisters were Budokai 2 & 3. The "rotate the thumbstick" gave me huge sores on my palms.

And I do have Final Bout's re-release, and the cons outweight the pros for me.
Battle High 2, starring Kyle Hebert as well as myself, has been released on Xbox 360, OUYA, PC, Linux, Mac, and Xbox One!

When I realised that you have to do those things, I'd never been so happy with all those times I'd played the Olympics games and Mario Party with friends.
... Maybe later.
