I have no female friends that like Dragon Ball Z outside of this forum. I know that there are some girls at my school that like Dragon Ball Z, but I'm not friends with them to know what conversations they get up to about it.
I always figured that fangirls were pretty similar to fanboys, and that the only obvious difference was that fangirls would fancy Goku and Vegeta and fanboys would fancy Bulma and Videl. Or that the fanboys would be more interesting in talking about battles and character strengths, while the fangirls would be more interested in talking about thereotical relationships. Then again, that's just a stereotype.
Frankly, I don't think they're that much different.

I'd be pretty surprised if any female fan ever argued excessively over who was stronger than who at any random point in the series. I would assume that's the main difference, as I'm sure both genders are free to speculate about characters and their lives.
I hide my power level so I tend not to talk about Dragon Ball offline.

I used to argue about those things a lot back in the day, but I just don't care much about that aspect of the series anymore. Buu era strengths were my biggest area for it, though, and occasionally I find myself dragged back into another argument about it. I'm sure there are plenty of examples of it here if you stalk my oldest posts.
But this thread kind of reminds me of why I hate gender stereotypes. Mostly because I don't fit the majority of them myself. There are a few male characters I'd admit are attractive, but cartoon/comic characters just don't do anything for me, so I've never really been into that type of "fangirling." I am a fan of romance to an extent, but not so much in the case of Dragon Ball, because other than Gohan/Videl, it generally requires getting speculative or fanficy, the latter of which I'm not really into. I do kind of wish Lunch and Tenshinhan had actually gotten together, but it's not like we would have seen much of them if they had anyway, so it's nothing I lose sleep over. Oh, and I guess I like cute things every now and then. I often want to hug the child versions of Gokuu, Goten, and Dende.
But yeah, I just like general things about Dragon Ball, and discussing them. I like to nitpick and analyze the most mundane details, and I also like to step back and make fun of things about the series when I see an opening for a bad joke. I don't have a lot of female friends, but I think those are the kinds of things that come up if and when we talk about Dragon Ball. If any of them get more fangirly about the series, they don't do it much around me, I guess. But I speak to male and female friends mostly the same way, and as far as I know, most of my male friends speak to me about Dragon Ball the same way they do other males.
So, to answer the original question, there isn't much difference in my personal experiences.

Scars and Velasa just melted my mind. Should of known about Velasa though, with the whole Piccolo obsession and what not. Excuse my stereotyping.Big Momma wrote:Scars...the fact that I just found out you were a girl completely shattered by entire universe.

I find it pretty hilarious that there are people who don't know I'm a girl, it's not like I've tried to hide it or anything.
This has been a really awesome thread, definitely enjoying it.

Oh, man.... growing up, I was probably the most boyish when it came to liking anything DB related. Yes, I am female. Of course, back then I was just some stupid kid who didn't have the internet at the time, and I mostly indulged myself in the Beckett mags, watched the TV show on CN......, imitated the Fusion Dance, pretended I could fly, "trained", etc etc. I never really thought of Trunks as being ~smexy~ or anything of the sort.... until I got older, heh. What can I say? I just like the fanart. ;;
I won't lie about fangirling from time to time about yaoi ships, and hetero ships, but I'm not obsessive either, and I would much rather talk about the HEAD CHA LA OP on a daily basis or something; no joke. I never really put much thought into the relationships of the story either, I just sort of took the story as it was being thrown at me. Maybe I'm odd, but if I happened to meet another girl into DB and all they talked about were the canon and not-so-canon relationships all the time, instead of the epic fight scenes, great music, and the individual characters, I'd probably go crazy.

I have written fanfictions in the past, And I still drift back to them from time to time, but at the moment I am really digging Twilight yay! Sorry Vegeta!
I have two female friends, One of whom I work with that are both obsessed with animes and the dragonball series. It's actually more trickier here finding a decent guy who has the same interests.

Are men from planet vegeta and girls from planet Namek? Who knows... But personally I like to think of myself from Planet Vegeta... Not because I'm a man! - Because i'm not... I just think of planet Vegeta being a much cooler planet, and the appeal of having a tail is pretty strong! I'd also rather not be green...

Heads up to saiyanprincess, if you want a truly stellar vampire mythos story, go for Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel. Gets no better than that, certainly leagues better than Twilight and all the other vamp stuff that's been spewed out the last few years. Hell, I enjoy the DragonBall mythos of a vampire more than Twilight's. Yay Fangs the Dracula-Man!
Umm, yeah, topic. A couple of the gals that've posted here, I knew were gals and have chatted with others (Rachel, Velasa). Obviously Scarz was the biggest shocker since I found out Big Momma and Dayspring were guys, then there's a couple more I'm just discovering. It's like going to a high school reunion, except with amnesia about everything but folks' names I guess? Okay, I digress, fun thread and fabulous to see so many ladies still so strongly into DragonBall!

On Saint Seiya forum, we have section Photos Of Our Members, it should be fun to have this kind of thread

I meant to respond to this. Wow I guess I missed the whole Big Momma thing since it says it in his signature. I can only imagine though lol. Man I should've picked a cooler more mysterious name. But I just went with my old alias I had years ago when I was a teenager in the online DBZ community. I guess cause I wish I was still a teenager.Conan the SSJ wrote: Obviously Scarz was the biggest shocker since I found out Big Momma and Dayspring were guys, then there's a couple more I'm just discovering.

Not so much. My avatar never really helped determine my gender and nethier did 90% of my comments here. But I can't help it, I've been told that half the things that comes out of my mouth are not very lady like.Big Momma wrote:And I'll bet Scarz is seriously facepalming at this thread now, haha
Hopefully my new Panty-Pig avatar will stop the confusion. (or just confuse people even more)

You suddenly give me the urge to watch Buffy the vampire Slayer, I might just pull out a couple of the seasons that are sitting up on my shelf gathering dust.
Hell yeah! I have dragonball blood flowing through my veins. Did I not tell you i'm part Saiyan also?

Why don't we all use some sort of social networking site and exchange photos? Anybody else on facebook.com

I guess it's just that people seem to quickly assume that most of the members on this forum are male. I know I've made that mistake. Perhaps it's because Dragon Ball Z can be percieved as a manga/anime directed at a male audience, what with all the extreme fighting and massive explosions etc. It's a stereotype, really.Scarz wrote:Not so much. And yes, get back to watching the Buffyverse, always timeless! Careful not to inject too much of that Saiyan blood though, the adrenaline can be very addictive. ...Wait!
