DragonBall: Raging Blast (PS3/360)
Well, the question about this game is: is it better than Tenkaichi 1?
Cause that's how it works when going next-gen: back to the first step of "discovering how the 360/PS3 works", at least that's how it goes with Dragon Ball games.
Burst Limit 1 is the equivalent of Budokai 1: characters floating instead of falling when they're KO, some full cutscenes for the story modes which are basically updated cutscenes of Budokai 1, similar characters available (starting with Z and stopping to the Cell Game end), ultimate attacks less impressive like Budokai 1...
Raging Blast 1 is the equivalent of Tenkaichi/Sparking 1: their first try on these new engines.
So don't compare it to Tenkaichi 3, only Raging Blast 3 will be the next-gen equivalent of Tenkaichi 3.
So the question you should wonder is: which of Raging Blast or Tenkaichi 1 is better? If Raging Blast is a better first episode, then it's what it's supposed to be, and Raging Blast 3 will probably be far better than Tenkaichi 3 in that case according to the equivalence theory. If not, they failed, and Tenkaichi 3 will probably remain unsurpassed for a looooong, long time.
I can't judge right now, I don't even have the demo. But somehow, I still think that Raging Blast is a better remake of Tenkaichi 1, and Burst Limit is a better remake of Budokai 1 which means: not bad for a first try, just like back then, cause that's what it is: the first episode, the first try, so don't ask too much, it's basically a remake of the previous series, just like for Burst Limit, you'll have to wait until number 2 or 3 to get what you exactly want, and in the meantime, you take what you can get.
Well, that's how I see it, maybe I'm wrong and maybe they'll just screw it all up in the upcoming episodes, but only time will tell.
So if you're not interested in having a remake of the previous series, don't buy it. But would you have appreciated Tenkaichi 3 that much if you hadn't played Tenkaichi 1 with all its flaws to start with?
Think about it: first episode on PS3 better than first episode on PS2 means third episode on PS3 better than third episode on PS2. So how about comparing Raging Blast to Tenkaichi 1? It would be fair at least. Yeah, I know, we all wish the first next-gen episode could be better than the last last-gen episode, as happens with some other great series, but that's not how it works with this one, first episode means "back to what we used to do on the first episode and re-thinking things from THERE, then we'll re-think what we did when we were comfortable with that machine when we are comfortable with THIS machine too".
So, do you have more pleasure with Raging Blast or Tenkaichi 1?

I played the demo. I hated it. The camera was horrible, maybe even the worst camera in a fighting game ever. The controls felt even easier (if that is possible) the graphics just were not Burst limit style. Honestly from videos and playing demo I think it's worse than some wii games e.g Smash Bros cutscenes > raging blast's footage of videos from trailers.
It's a ps3/360 game. There is NO excuse for that cameras and graphics. What's worse in they are selling it for £45. With how this game plays and looks it should be either a) a wii and ps2 game or b) a budget title. I don't see this game doing well at all.
Not to mention the same month it's out (november) we have Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 , Dragon Age: Origins , Assassins Creed II , Left 4 Dead 2, New Super Mario Bros Wii , LEGO Rock Band, Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles. This game been the price it is for what it is is a HUGE mistake.

What is wrong with the graphics? They look very nice looking to me since the character models and the backgrounds look great IMO. If there is a PS2 game that looks as nice as this one then I want to be the first one to buy it

So far, my only problem with the graphics have been how Super Saiyans have terribly looking hair from behind.
...you know...a guy who will probably only see gameplay videos, rather than actually play it...
EDIT: Fixed typo.

Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 3 (ps2)

Dragon Ball: Raging Blast (PS3)

They look to similar graphics wise. The only difference = the hud. They should look more like this :

That is my point on the graphics. Raging blast and Budokai Tenkaichi 3 look to similar. Yes they are the same franchise but that is no excuse. Look at other series WWE , Soul Calibre , Madden, Metal Gear solid. When looking at them compare ps2 to ps3. You see a huge difference.

None of those games are cel-shaded. There's only so much you can do with characters who have no skin texture, who wear clothes with no material texture, who have hair that's a solid, textureless less mass, etc...
The art style itself is what's limiting graphical progress. All they can really do is make the actual character models better, and work on better shading (which I would say they failed at), because the textures are flat by default.
And a better comparison of the graphics, I'd say:
BT3:

The character models are better but man, the surroundings are just plain dull. Its completely lifeless and has little to no interactivity. The trees nor tall grass react to anything, like a nearby character powering up.
Also, the debri just falls through the floor of the stage rather than pile up. I'm sure they could've used some sort of physics engine that would allow that. (Could you imagine having the debri start to levitate and float around you as you power up? That'd be bad ass!)
And where are the craters from blasts and such? The beams just hit the ground with a little explosion and puff of smoke.
The addition of hitting someone into the side of a mountain and wailing on them is awesome.
...but that's all that they added besides making the stages bigger. A more destructible, lively environment wouldn't make the game feel so...cheap and recycled, y'know?

After playing the demo for a good long while, I've gotten even more excited for this game.
The controls still take a bit of getting used to (Haven't played a Spike Dragon Ball game on PS2 since Sparking/BT). The fast gameplay is quite fun and unique and it really looks like they are trying to differentiate characters in play style. With the special technique button, it'll make things far more interesting.
The variety of attacks are nice and attacks like Goku's Meteor Smash (It's still called that, right?) needing button input to successfully complete the combo is a good addition and makes the game a lot more about playing than watching.
Transformations are a pretty thing to look at and the fact that transforming down and back up to the prior form are instantaneous makes for really fluid gameplay.
So, in the demo we have about 3 - 4 bars of health. Does anyone know if they've seen more bars than that? The battles just feel like they're over to quickly to really get in some good strings.

I've been sayin' it all along, I'm as content with BT3 as content could be !
Nothin' about this game has really gave me goosebumps to snatch it for a pre-order or on in-store release day. I will get it eventually cause I try to do my part in supportin' the Dragonball francise but damn.... DO BETTER SPIkE !
The graphic's in fact are too similar to be called " next-gen ", and the point Amigo Ten made about the characters designs being not realistic themselves prohibit any kind of " Soul Calibur/Tekken-esqe " upgrade if you will. We shouldn't EVER expect that to be so.
I'd actually like to see the heavy blast [but not heavy lookin', crap visuals] make contact and do it's hits before it goes into that split screen witnessin' the impact. It's gotten cheesy.
The backgrounds are too bland and doesn't compliment the models. They should incorporate the same designin' they do with the character models with the backgrounds. So it'll have that lush drawn manga/anime feel [BT3, Super DBZ, Naruto Narutimate series]
I do love the button combination thing during a rush attack, That is brilliant ! However lets bring back the previous combos from BT3. They're longer, cooler, and would provide more of a button input challenge.
Overall, BT3 [in a Dragonball way] is visually better in my opinion. -shrugs
Anyways, user 1U1N2N43 has a new video ! His play style is SICK !!!

Does anyone have any version of Progression (with vocals) without sound effects, like from the game play? I'm tired of only being able to hear it in the trailers. Or are we stuck with it until it comes out in stores?
Next quest: Buy the Super: Broly and Super Hero Blurays, also Daima whenever that releases in the states. Also the Super Manga!

Besides graphics Burst Limit was sub-par.Rory wrote:How many times do I have to say "Burst Limit" in this thread before people start calling me a fanboy?SSJ2bardock wrote:Not sure why people are complaining about the graphics, I mean you can only make it look so good before it doesn't look like a cartoon anymore.

Why besides graphics ? The character design was horrible, the animation in the cut scenes were the same for all the characters, and my eyes are still burning because of the shiny effects. Overall, it looked nothing like the anime.goku the krump dancer wrote:Besides graphics Burst Limit was sub-par.Rory wrote:How many times do I have to say "Burst Limit" in this thread before people start calling me a fanboy?SSJ2bardock wrote:Not sure why people are complaining about the graphics, I mean you can only make it look so good before it doesn't look like a cartoon anymore.
But the backgrounds were nice.

Why can't this game look more like "Mystery of Shenlong"!? It really felt like I was looking at the anime when I played that game. Pfffft whatever, I guess no game will ever come close enough to looking like "Mystery of Shenlong" again... it's a shame really.
Aro started to laugh. “Ha, ha, ha,” he chuckled.- Actual quote from Twilight
That was what I said. It should look like burst limit.Rory wrote:How many times do I have to say "Burst Limit" in this thread before people start calling me a fanboy?SSJ2bardock wrote:Not sure why people are complaining about the graphics, I mean you can only make it look so good before it doesn't look like a cartoon anymore.
