Lack Of DBZ Covers On Shonen Jump....

Post by Tanooki Kuribo » Tue Feb 08, 2005 11:40 pm

So, in January's Shonen Jump the cover and back has Yu-Gi-Oh. That really don't make any sence lets see here...how many pages of YGO where there in the mag? 0! And how many DB pages? 62!

YGO wasn't even in this issue and he's on the cover?

Heh, the chart would go:
1)Yu-Gi-Oh! (12)
2)Dragonball Z (5)
3)Shaman King (4)
4)Naruto (3)
5)Yu Yu Hakusho (1)
5)One Piece (1)
6)Hikaru No Go (0)
6)Sand Land (0)

That used to cheese me, too. But honestly, Yu-Gi-Oh! is probably the main driving force that sells the magazine, so it really is a no-brainer for Viz to give it the most covers.

There has even been cases of consecutive Yu-Gi-Oh covers:
November 2003 - January 2004 (3)
January 2005 and February 2005

..and there are 6 DragonBallZ covers.

Well what do you expect? They put on the cover what sells.

the Domestic SJ pisses me off. I havent picked it up since my subscription ran out a couple months ago. The main thing that irritated me was that damn propaganda they had at the bottom of the pages. Funny thing is, it worked. I just dont buy SJ anymore. Graphic Novels ARE the way to go.

I wouldn't exactly classify that as propaganda Sun. Also, the Japanese Shonen Jump is plastered with ads too.

It's not just the fact that they keep putting ygo on the cover, it's that they keep using the same character every time. I think I'd be a little more forgiving of their yugioh-cover overkill if they at least picked a different character from the manga to put on the cover.
I can't tell you how thrilled I was to see Naruto on the cover this month instead of Yugi.
They were alternating between ygo and dbz a short while back though.

I'd only buy the graphic novels but they take so long to release and Shounen Jump's ahead in chapters.
Besides I do sorta read Naruto, One Piece, Shaman King, and YYH, so...
On hiatus.

I've noticed that the more enjoyable manga hardly, or haven't gotten cover time. Maybe it's just me, but I prefer Hikaru no Go over Shaman King and One Piece, and Yu-Gi-Oh.

On the topic of graphic novels I think I'd prefer it if they were printed on the SJ paper, and that size. I like how SJ is all flimsy etc... :?

ZERO Sandlands? Not that I'm a huge Sandland lover, but you'd think they'd put Sandland on the cover for its last issue.

I supose you're right.

But then again, unless I'm mistaken Yu-Gi-Oh is very popular at the moment in the US. Therefore if they put Yugi on the cover, then all the YGI fans will see it and hopefully buy it.

Why don't you do yourself a favour and buy more SJ graphic novels with your money?

I just wish they had it like the japanese do , they probably laugh at the US version.
How many times must we tell you that the Japanese version also has those ads?!?! **Goes on a rampage while waiting for his leftover KFC to cook**

One Sandland one would have been nice. They should put more YYH and One Piece covers though and not just Yugi every damn month. As for Hikaru No Go, I find that one to be kind of boring so I don't care about its lack of covers.
