Cell Destroying The Solar System?

You can't teleport unless you can sense ki to lock onto.

So why didn't Vegeta's self-destruction do anything more than make a big crater? Vegeta was far stronger than Cell, and was releasing every bit of ki he had.

Vegeta was trying to kill Boo, not destroy a solar system.

I know, but killing Boo was still his intention, and the explosion was as big it needed to be to do that (of course it didn't kill him, but still).

Actually, he was focused on Boo only. This is evident with Piccolo saying something along the lines of, "You'll die. You won't keep your body." He didn't state anything towards Vegeta to be careful and not destroy the planet.

How is Piccolo supposed to know what Vegeta's about to do?

And if Vegeta was focusing only on Buu, why did he waste all that energy blowing up the land behind him?

How is Piccolo supposed to know what Vegeta's about to do?

I guess its something like this.....you aim a Rocket-launcher at a tank, even though you hit your target the explosion effets the surronding areas...still kinda hard to explain though.

Umm, New Namek wasn't in the same solar system, right? And Goku managed to find some ki to lock onto nevertheless.
Cell could have just looked for some ki patterns that he recognized and in that way he could have teleported his way through space, as he would encounter new life forms.

As far as I know, Cell could do something similar too, finding some Ki and looking.
Goku was in that case looking for New Namek specifically. There may be another planet that is closer to Earth.
Otherwise, Cell has all the time in the world (he he) to look for other lifeforms via concentrating.
I think that just a faint ki is enough.

He could probably sense a distant ki, though. He was able to find his way back to Earth from Kaio's, after all.

It could be argued that Vegeta was also capable of blowing up the planet at that point, yet his self destructing didn't do that either.

It could be argued that Vegeta was also capable of blowing up the planet at that point, yet his self destructing didn't do that either.

If you direct it at him, he could dodge it.

I don't know if Fat Buu could use Instant Transmission, so making a huge area of damage ensures that if Buu moved, he would still get hit
