TV Tropes.com's Wild Mass Guessing entry on Dragon Ball

Post by John Pannozzi » Mon Nov 09, 2009 10:56 pm

In case you haven't heard of it, TV Tropes is a wiki about tropes, or storytelling devices and conventions. Their Wild Mass Guessing entries are where users (or Tropers as they're called) come up with some theories (some are quite crazy, some not so much) about about fictional (an even non-fictional) stories and characters.
The Dragon Ball entry in Wild Mass Guessing comes up with some interesting, and sometimes even plausible theories about the Dragonworld- were Goten and Trunks conceived while their fathers were in SSJ mode? You be the judge.

I have a nostalgic soft spot for the Dragon Ball 10th anniversary movie. Ditto the Buu saga.

This site has... left me speechless. Some of these theories... I don't understand how people can think some of these things.

Oh, TV-Tropes, how silly you can be at times. I simply do not have the spare brainpower/time/care to be an uninformed idiot on most days.

So I'll just leave it up to those people.....and go about my business and stick with theorizing based upon you know, Dragon Ball canon/at least somewhat educated guesses.

I still say the Senzu plant is originally from Namek.

Of course, I go round that site enough to realize it's all in good dumb(ass) fun. But once again, I'll leave it up to the people who have the want to actually do that sort of thing....it's just not my cup of tea, that's all. :P

When Ginyu says "The stronger this guy is, the better," during his battle with Goku, Jeice immediately understands, realising that Ginyu is about to use his body swap technique. Although it's possible that Ginyu simply told the others about it, it seems more likely that they have seen him use the technique in the past, perhaps more than once. Who knows how many bodies he went through before coming to the horned, purple one that we see in the series?
I have always kinda thought about this. But then again his pods had his face on it. But maybe he had a different body got his Ginyu body before joining up with Freeza.

Garlic And Garlic Jr. Are Namekians: Take a short Namekian, remove the antennae and muscles, recolor sea green, and add spots and wrinkles. What do you get? Garlic Jr
Mmkay. Let's say it like this instead: Earthlings are Saiya-jins. Just add a tail, permanent hair and a more durable body.
Or better:
Kaioshin are originally Namekians. Just remove the antennae, color them green, add some pink/yellow patches and make them bald.
Vegeta is in denial of his father's death.
This is quite obvious. Now, Vegeta is very vain and power-hungry. It's strange that he refers to himself as "The Prince Of All Saiyans", since he's technically the king because his father is dead. The obvious conclusion? He's in denial. What confuses this troper about this idea is that Vegeta acknowledges that he and Goku are the last full-blooded Saiyans.
Umm, or maybe it's like that there was no coronation, or simply that he has no planet to reign over anymore?
urles is a clone created by Freeza, because he saw that Goku will not finish his mission to rid Earth of sentient beings. Furthermore, Freeza gave Turles information about the tree so he had more of a chance of beating Goku.
And what is the reason of that the movie's story never elaborated on this?
Cell Saga SSJ 2 Teen Gohan is stronger than Buu Saga SSJ 2 Goku or Vegeta.
This is mostly my own impressions from the anime/manga, so feel free to dispute them thoroughly, buta) look at how easily he dispatches his enemies, and b) look at the fact that the whole deal with him is the huge power boosts he takes from his dual heritage.
Apparently this dude doesn't know how to read properly. Vegeta states that they are stronger than Gohan at the Cell games.
Goku was in Super Saiyan form during Goten's conception.
Or...Goten was humongously strong at birth, enough to make the transformation easier? And there is nothing implying that a fit of rage didn't make him transform to begin with. Kids can be emotional and have temper tantrums.
Android 17 is also a girl, but with her voice (and perhaps body) modified to sound like a man
Uh-oh. Someone has a crush on Android 17! Get out of the closet, already!
Vegeta is American.
Well, if America is a part of Planet Vegeta.

The younglings today do too many drugs.

Okay, it just looked odd to me that you knew why this site exists, yet call random people uninformed idiots.

I love TvTropes, you can spend the entire day on it reading trope after trope on it. Specially because of this:

"We are not Wikipedia. We're a buttload more informal. There Is No Such Thing As Notability, and no citations are needed. If your entry cannot gather any evidence by the Wiki Magic, it will just wither and die. Until then, though, it will be available through the Main Tropes Index. We encourage breezy language and original thought (and won't object to the occasional snarky comment, either). "

My favorite DB trope has got to be Gyuamao whoring out his daughter

Just hearing about that site reminds me of the Dragonball Z entry in the Encyclopedia Dramatica site. I suggest it lol.

I think Tom Dubois of "The Boondocks" said it best for me when FUNimation announced the release of the domestic Dragonbox, after buying all of the Season Sets: "MOTHERFUCK!!! SHIT SHIT SHIT SHIT SHIT, PRICKS, SHIT SHIT SHIT SHIT SHIIIIIIIT!"

^No. Please, no.

Reacoom is the announcer in Dragon Ball Kai wrote: Reacoom is really the announcer. He talks slowly when recapping previous episodes because he has trouble reading his cues. He couldn't announce for the beginning of episodes 30 because he was busy getting ready for his fight with Vegeta, nor episode 31 because he was in the middle of it. (he was able to announce the end of episode 30 because the fight was put on hold for the next week, of course)
Haha, I like this one.
