Is there any indication that Ocean group will release dvds?
I would buy the entire series again just to hear the Candian Brian Drummond's Vegeta with the original japanese music. I think he is the best Vegeta, and this is someone who grew up listening to the Japanese and Spanish Vegetas, who are both great.
Are they ever going to release a DVD series, much like Funimation has?

Naw. The Ocean Group (which I think is now called Ocean Productions) doesn't own the rights to Dragon Ball (or DBZ or DBGT), they are merely the company that dubbed it. For DBZ, FUNimation owns the rights to The Ocean Group's dub of episodes 1~67 (1~53) and some European company (probably AB Groupe in France) owns the rights to The Ocean Group's dub of episodes 123~291 (108~276).

I think it's more along the lines of: Funimation owns distrubuting rights to North America (Including Canada and Mexico). So, any dub they release is going to be their own, and they currently don't give a damn about Mexico... so...
I'm not sure what the deal is with the overseas stuff though.
I probably shouldn't have posted, because I know little of wtf I'm talking about, but hey, it shows I care.

I preferred some of the Ocean voices to the Funimation ones, albeit marginally.
But what I want is a DVD release of the Filipino English version. I would buy that just for the laughs.

I think it's because it makes Vegeta sound evil. When he's on the side of Gokuh and the others, it's just bizarre and annoying.
Though it's not as funny as the Malaysian English dub, it definitely entertains me.

Well, also, the Filipino dub had a pretty good English version of "Cha La Head Cha La".

I love the movie versions! They be awesome!
Age of Wonder has some good songs and some bad. Special Zenkai Power for example. It's a weird song to begin with though...
For all the flack that FUNimation gets on this forum for their quote about DBZ, there's some modicum of truth to it: a 9-year-old is born every day. Or in some cases, "reborn". DBZ may be a kids' show, but it's been so close to so many hearts all over Japan, America, and quite possibly, even the world.
Huge disappointment that he doesn't exclaim "sparking!" at the end, it's always been my favorite part of the song.penguintruth wrote:I prefer the movie version, myself. Woah, never thought I'd see this stinker again. I came across this in my early fansub days. I always thought it was a fandub, and wondered why native English speakers would make something this amateur-sounding.linkdude20002001 wrote:Kei17 put up a download link for a 30 minute clip of the movie "Battle of the Strongest".

I actually tracked down (not so difficult, it was on Amazon) the Pioneer DVD release for the first three movies, in a boxset, with the Ocean dub, some months ago (I think I've mentioned this more than once) and bought it. Anyone should still be able to find this set if they look hard enough. I would reccommend it somewhat, since the movies weren't really effed with.
I found that a lot of my nostalgia for the Ocean voices was just that, nostalgia, but still prefer Kelamis' Goku and McNeil's Piccolo to any of the other English dub voices I've heard, and even some of the weaker voices were a little better in the movies. I was switching back and fort between the dub and the original Japanese track, though, being so used to the Japanese voices now.
As I've been growing impatient waiting for my Dragon Box to come, I may watch these again in the meantime.

Was the box set set up like FUNimation's current box sets (They're called digipaks, right?) Or is it a box with individual DVD cases inside?penguintruth wrote:I actually tracked down (not so difficult, it was on Amazon) the Pioneer DVD release for the first three movies, in a boxset, with the Ocean dub, some months ago (I think I've mentioned this more than once) and bought it.
