Recording question

Post by Reckoner » Sun Nov 15, 2009 5:22 pm

I've been looking through all of my DBZ BGM sets and I've noticed some of the tracks are mixed in stereo and some are just left in mono. Does anyone know why that is?

Really? Can you give some examples?

On the five-disc set, disc 2 (the DragonBall BGM), tracks 14 through 26 are monaural.

Then on disc 4, tracks 9 through 11 and 13 through 15 are in mono, as well as disc 5's tracks 1 through 5, then 7 through 11. All of the vocal songs are in stereo.

I seriously have no idea why nearly half the entire collection of instrumental BGM on this set is that way.
BGM forever! If only more people paid attention to it... well, I intend to change that.

Japanese Kikuchi fans would say "Having any problem with his OST CD? It can't be helped. You know, it's a product of Columbia Music Entertainment."

They put mono version even if the stereo masters do exist, fabricated the next episode preview music and HERO (movie size), and sometimes they put wrong pieces. How stupid they are. Columbia seriously sucks at making OST CDs.

I've always hated that. I hope we'll one day get a CD set with all the BGM in stereo.

While I'm not denying this (honestly, while I own a decent chunk of OST CD's they're more for reference than active listening which is why I didn't know about this problem with the mono tracks), is there any company associated with DragonBall releases that you don't hate? ;)
