1) When Goku meets Bulma, her shirt says "Bulma" (duh!)
Did it say Bulma in the Japanese manga, or say "Buruma" in Katakana?
2) Was the name Cultivar made up by VIZ, trying to give the Saibamen a fancy name?
3) Is Gurd closer to the pun than Guldo? His Japanese name is Gurudo, so Guldo actually sounds closer to the Japanese name, but what is the pun?
4) Not really a VIZ question, but what's Bardock's pun?

Bardock is a pun on the word "burdock", a kind of plant in the thistle family. The stalk though can be cooked and eaten and I think I remember hearing once that it tastes like asparagus. I know that the roots and other parts are used for a lot of different herbal remedies.

1) Has been covered, but yeah, "BULMA" is plastered all over the Japanese manga. Considered Toriyama's "official" romanization.
2) Well, I've never heard anyone else use that name. But they were Saibaiman in the original, and saibai means "cultivation", so...
3) Lots of people claim that his pun is on "yogurt", but I firmly believe that it's a pun on "curd", which is kurudo in katakana, and much closer to gurudo than yooguruto.
4) Also already explained.

I think they call them both cultivators and Saibimen in the Viz manga.

Nope, in their short time in the manga, they're called Cultivars.

Actually, I believe they are only called Cultivars in Viz's translation. I own one of those card game books (possibly a Daizenshuu...it's the one with SS Son Goku in the Kamehameha stance standing over a card), and there's a card with those little green men called "Saibaman." I'd go look in my book to check, but I happen to be moving this weekend, so all my stuff is packed up. Correct me if I'm wrong.

How'd they come up with H E R C U L E? It's just a name, Just like "Saibaiman" means "cultivated person" they just decided to call the race "Cultivars", maybe to bring the Japanese meaning to English-speaking readers.
