Beating LotSS?

Post by Lance Freeman » Sat Nov 14, 2009 11:45 pm

My friend and I were having a discussion about video games the other day, somehow we got talking about Dragon Ball games, and then we wondered if it's actually possible to beat Legend of the Super Saiyan without using external cheat devices. We decided that it's not possible, but I'd like to throw my question onto the collective knowledge of people who likely know a lot more than I do. Is it possible to beat LotSS without cheating?

This is the SNES (Super Famicom) RPG right?

Yes, it is possible to beat it without cheating.

Explaining what part of the game has you guys stuck would help if you're looking for tips.

Totally. I've done it. It just involves a lot of level grinding.

We weren't really looking for tips, we were just curious.

Though, for the sake of clarity, I got stuck on Dodoria before I had to look up codes. I'm sure my friend never got much past Raditz.

Welcome to the mystical land of old school console RPG's, where level grinding is how many of us spent entire weekends ;)

The repetitive battle music prevented me from grinding in this game.

I haven't played it since 1999 or so, but I STILL remember it. :x

That battle music was awesome. It's one of the reasons I like the game.

I found the game rather easy to beat, though it does involve quite a bit of grinding, but it also helps if you pick up the Ki card that doubles your BP for the duration of the battle, which makes the fight with SSJ Vegeta a complete cakewalk.

I countered that by muting the game and listening to some Dragonball music or something.

Was the grinding that bad? (For reference, I've beaten Dragon Quest 1-3.)

It was kinda hard finding a decent middle ground between enemies who were too easy and gave too little experience and finding enemies that were too difficult and weren't worth your time. On top of that, a lot of times you'd run into several random encounters back-to-back-to-back-to-back with about three seconds between each battle which made it hard to get anywhere.

Usually I would have to grind while right next to a healing chamber on Namek or something.

There was a time when that sounded like fun to me. That day way a long time ago.

You wouldn't wanna grind this game. I still have that whole "bom-BOM-bom-BOM-buhbaBABONG" tune for when you transition from the map to a random battle stuck in my head.
