The Budokai Announcer

Post by Zackarotto » Thu Feb 24, 2005 11:30 pm

So I was watching the last episode of GT a few mumblemonthsmumble ago, and I noticed that our favorite announcer was still doing his job at the fifty-thousandth Tenkaichi Budokai. You know, the one with Goku Jr?

How old is this guy? He was there in the 21st Budokai. And he's there a hundred years later (it might be ten years, it might be eleven hundred, I'm not doing any math).

Who knows if it stops there? Maybe he was there at the first. Maybe he'll be there as long as the fights themselves. Do we know for sure that he isn't immortal or something? He might own the island. Aside from him, the only workers I've seen were some weird monks who signed the fighters up and maybe guarded the place.

I'm sorta surprised I'm posting this, but I ran a search through topics about him and found nothing. So... yeah.

I've always assumed that announcer was not the announcer we've grown to know, but a descendant of his. I highly doubt it's the same man, unless he's part of the Kamesennin or Tsurusennin family.

I guess he's just really, really old. He's also the only one on Earth (besides the main characters/villains) that knows of Son Goku's achievements. Somewhat off-topic, but not really.
I was voted "most unique" and "most likely to become the next existential thinker" in high school.

Well... Kamesennin had a Phoenix, right? It's probably the same sort of thing. Unless he used the dragonballs.

I'm pretty sure it was the same guy, though. It looks like they made a big effort to try and age him for the episode...

I always assumed he was a descendant... I mean, look at how old Pan is! He looks way younger than her.

Yeah, I agree with the decendent part. I think the only reason he has gray LOOKING hair, is because it is supposed to look like a futuristic silver. Besides, the announcer has been balding throughout all of DB/Z and by GT he should be bald. I say he's just part of the fam.

I also agree with the descendent theory. It's the same as with Goku Jr. and Vegeta Jr., they look practically identical to there forebearers. That's why he looks the same.

I personally think Zacko's been at the liquid paper again.

Just for the record, the original announcer did appear in one ep of GT, were he wasn't QUITE bald.

So, uhm, yeah. If you want, I can get a screencap.

Maybe we should just get screencaps of him from every budokai. A full comparison would be nice.

I'd like to take this time to point out once I get an idea like this, I stick by it stubbornly, even when it sounds pathetic next to normal logic.

But then again, you may be right. Normal logic is thrown out when it comes to Dragon Ball.

Hey, that's true. Maybe that's another reason why I like it so much.

The Budokai Announcer is immortal. He made a deal with the devil. He got immortallity, but he has to always announce the Budokais.

Hey! Maybe he wished for immortality with the dragonballs! :D

Ah, no one's hurt. But it does raise a question.

Is it possible? We heard that somebody used the dragonballs to become a king or something, but did anybody say that it was the only wish ever recently made (before Goku's time)?

Well it had been at least 100 years since the last wish... (Because Kamesennin says that he found the 3 star ball 100 years ago [I'm pretty sure he said that at least...])
