Anime Insider's Top 10 reasons to get DBZ Uncut
Anime Insider's Top 10 reasons to get DBZ Uncut
Everything I type is from an article from Anime Insider. Don't get angry at me if you disagree with a reason or feel a more important clause is missing from the list.

10 Reasons To Celebrate 'DBZ Uncut'
When Dragon Ball Z first aired, it was on regular broadcast and had to be heavily edited {13 episodes worth of footage were cut from the first 66 episodes}. Fans worried that they'd never catch the original versions, but FUNimation has heard the call--the totally uncensored DBZ: The Ultimate Uncut Special Editions will arrive in April. Here's what you've been missing!
10. Consistent character voices. The original TV broadcast was dubbed by another company, then FUNimation themselves took over the dub from episode 54. FUNi has redubbed DBZ using all the current voice actors, meaning the voices will at last be consistent for the entire 276-episode series!
9. No more foamy glasses of water. Yep, Master Roshi is over 21 and likes his beer, which was re-colored for the original broadcast.
8. The nmbering system will still work! FUNimation will keep the old numbers in place--for example: if two episodes made up the old episode 14, Ultimate will list them as 14A and 14B.
7. Frieza's minion Guldo! Vegeta cuts his head off! 'Nuff said!
6. No more Home For Infinite Losers! When Goku dies and falls off Snake Way, he'll be in hell--not the semi-cleverly edited HFIL.
5. Launch is back! She was cut out entirely since Dragon Ball hadn't been released and no one would know who she was. Now she's living with Tien!
4. Fans wept when, after Nappa destroyed some fighter jets, Yamcha said the obviously new line, "I can see their parachutes! THey're ok!" Now, there are no parachutes.
3. FULL FRONTAL NUDITY! From Gohan! Who is four years old! 'Nuff said! [comment from Dayspring: WHY DOES THAT MERIT A 'Nuff said!' COMMENT?! O_O;;]
2. The beloved (in Japan) episode where Gohan befriends a wrecked robot will finally be available!
1. You can see the original Goku vs. Vegeta fight in all of its bloody glory! Bring a raincoat!
And yes I left Anime Insider's crappy dub spellings.

I like how they go back and forth with Japanese/English names. Tenshinhan, but "Launch". And say it's 276 episodes, yet say 13 episodes were cut.
All-in-all, that's not TOO terrible of a description (in fact, it's pretty decent). But WTF. They talk about full-frontal Gohan nudity... but...

You're misunderstanding.Heritic wrote:...so are those 13 episodes that were cut ever going to see a DVD release? Or have they already gotten one?
It's not that there are 13 individual episodes that were cut. There were 13 episodes WORTH OF MATERIAL cut from the first two seasons (about 67 episodes down to 53). Granted, there were some episodes that were more-or-less not shown (like the first episode, beyond Raditz landing and such)...
But yeah. All of these episodes and their respective material, including the Japanese audio track, will be present on this "Ultimate Uncut Edition" DVD release.

Anyone else find it funny that both before and after they did DBZ that Saban allowed drinking on some of their other properties and made no deal about it?Dayspring wrote: 9. Wha?, When did this happen? Is it a filler episode?.
Uhuh, it is one of the best episodes ever! Really like that episode, so sweet, seeing how Gohan has to grow up in order to survive ;_;

Ah the endearing robot episode! Yes Mr Robot is all crabby and annoyed with Gohan but saves his life in the end! He's always telling Gohan to leave him alone, but the next minute helps him with things like finding food. XD
You know I love how they don't even bother to get their facts straight on that list. Lunch was not living with Tenshinhan. She was around him because she was stalking the guy, except for when she was off robbing banks.
She would have stalked through the entire Saiyajin saga if not for the fact that she couldn't climb the pillar of Karin's Tower after him. And boy was she pissed about that! XD

Re: Anime Insider's Top 10 reasons to get DBZ Uncut
Didn't a couple of FUNi's actors leave after Season Four, though, causing a few recasts after that? Most notably that bad announcer who also did Ginyuu's voice (Dale Kelley, I think?).Dayspring wrote:10. Consistent character voices. I remember a big chunk of this was available, sub only, as an extra on Pioneer's release of Movie 1, along with part of the first episode. Would be very nice to finally see the whole thing.Dayspring wrote:2. The beloved (in Japan) episode where Gohan befriends a wrecked robot will finally be available!

If by "leave" you mean "fired," yesTripleRach wrote:Didn't a couple of FUNi's actors leave after Season Four, though, causing a few recasts after that? Most notably that bad announcer who also did Ginyuu's voice (Dale Kelley, I think?).
And then there's all the instances of minor characters that appear for a second in flashbacks, like Raditz, that other people did. For example, in that big filler episode towards the end of the Freeza saga featuring Vegeta, Nappa, and Raditz, I'm damn sure Chris Sabat did Raditz for the episode, while Justin Cook has been doing him for the games and redub.
So:
RADITZ: Jason Gray-Stanford --> Chris Sabat --> Justin Cook
GINYU: Richard Newman --> Dale Kelly --> Brice Armstrong
NAPPA: Dobson/McNeil (whomever) --> (someone @ FUNi) --> Phil Parsons
OOLONG: Doug Parker (TV) --> [someone] (movies) --> Bradford Jackson
BAHTA: David Kaye --> Mark Britten --> (someone new)
KARIN: (someone @ Ocean) --> Mark Britten --> (someone else @ FUNi)
It's a mess. I'm sure there are others, too.

He should have made a comment about random gibberish using Japanese syllables.

Ah, I didn't know what the story was with that.VegettoEX wrote:If by "leave" you mean "fired," yes.
To fill in a blank, I think Karin's current actor is Chris Sabat. Definitely sounds like him, anyway.
I think that another character affected was Enma, who's switched between Dameon Clarke and Satan's VA. And then there's Gyuumaou, who ended up with one person doing his voice for the rest of DBZ, and Kyle Hebert doing it in all of DB.

You see all of it except for the opening credits, commercial intros/outros or whatever they're called, and the ending credits. Feature 1 is part of the episode and Feature 2 is the rest of the ep. I laughed my ass off when I saw that was the features section; you basically get a full free episode on the DVD.Tanooki Kuribo wrote:Actually you can see that episode as one of the extras on Pioneers version of the Dead Zone DVD...Well it dosen't have the intro and its missing about 2 minutes...so you can see maybe 90% of that episode.Wha?, When did this happen? Is it a filler episode?.

Actually to me, those characters do not sound alike at all. With Dende and Yusuke there are times I can tell that it's the same actor, but they don't sound alike. On the other hand some guys think that Yajirobe and Kuwabara sound the same even though they're voiced by two different actors.Chibi Mystic Gohan wrote:Justin Cook's Raditz makes my ears burn. He's not good at making a voice actually FIT the character, I mean, Yusuke, Dende, and Raditz all sound the same...
