This goes a bit deeper than what you've seen of this conversation. In context, what I'm saying has a bit of irony to it.jjgp1112 wrote:Well, maybe you should have worded it better. You act like he's dreading it and it's a victory for you.
Is what FUNimation did so horrible?
I wanna know how Kunzait had two different avatars showing up on the same page for me....because it was freaking awesome.

You know what? If other animes today, had alterante background music tracks. I wouldn't give a shit. I would try them out. And if I liked it better than the Japanese bgm, then so what? Either way, I won't be forced, I will choose what I like. Even if Funimation releases eps 68+ with no optional Bruce Falconer Score. Then I will make it so I can watch that track on Dragon Box quality. No ifs and buts. I like to change music tracks between the Japanese BGM to the Bruce Falconer Score back and forth when I'm watching episodes. I like most of the Japanese BGM anyways.Kendamu wrote:Well, everyone is entitled to the Dragonbox, SSVegetto. It's not like only a certain group of fans are legally allowed to purchase it. It's just that, if you do, you'll have to put up with watching the show as originally intended: with the original music...! Y'know, like pretty much every other anime currently on the market.
Just because FUNi says, "Yo, Japanese version fans. Check this! We got what you wanted," doesn't mean they're also saying, "Fuck you, everyone else." They're just paying special attention to the people who spent two years requesting it over and over again instead of paying special attention to the people happily watching what was already out there.
By the way, You can't really force someone to watch something they don't like. If Funimation didn't screw up their orange box sets. This wouldn't be a problem. By the way, those people you are mentioning that Funimation is paying attention to. Are the same ones that got ripped off from the Orange Box sets. They deserve the same experience and high quality as anyone does. Hence the bad reviews on Amazon people are complaining about. If you don't believe people are not pissed, they are. Funimation should have made sure to market this to everyone and include all the options they had on their other sets.
But I'm glad you did say everyone was entitled to the Dragon Box though. Anyways, the only problem I see that you have is you forcing people that what you prefer most is what is "meant to be seen" or "originally intended". You are taking this way too literally. You are taking Dragon Ball Z way too literally. I get the fact that you love the show in Japanese and you love the Japanese BGM. That's great, but that doesn't mean when someone else comes around, and says they want everyone to enjoy the show for the Dragon Box, just for the high quality alone, you take offense to that. Like it's an insult, and you want everyone to reminded that is not why they should watch the show, they should watch it because it's Japanese and it's for these certain types of fans, and it's only meant to be watched this way or this way.
And believe me I read your posts in the Dragon Box thread, you actually got paranoid and thought I was trying to shat all over the thread. With basically a simple statement like this "People's egos about these Dragon Box sets are running wild. It's just a higher quality release that anyone deserves to watch." This statement would bother you? Why? I clearly didn't mention any names? And you responded to it like you were acknowledging like you were the person I was talking to. Why would me saying everyone deserves to watch the Dragon Box for high quality alone bother you? Why would you intepert that as me shating all over the thread? Who knows, I feel it's because you feel I didn't acknowledge you as a great Japanese purists that knows everything about Dragonball Z or I didn't acknowledge your special fanbase. Well, at least Funimation does for you. And I don't agree with Funimation, hence why you think I should bow down to Funimation thanking them.
I get that Dragon Ball Z means a lot to you. And you want it exactly to your liking. But to some of us, we don't obsesses over minor details. We get the same thing as we do watching the Japanese audio with subtitles as we do when watching the English dub. Some of us don't do comparisons, and stress over minor details. Some of us don't care about the dub names being exact or what not. This is going over board with a show that has been done for many years. With that said, feel free to follow me in every post if you want. That's what exactly what you are doing (yes, and before people jump down my throat saying he is allowed to and if I dont like then I shouldn't post scoop, yeah I know that, I'm just acknowledging what he is doing).
But anyways, if you think I'm going to change my mind about Funimation. You are sadly mistaken. You are a cool person to converse with though. Sorry we don't agree with each other, I doubt we ever will. This is okay though.

The series doesn't start with the arrival of Raditz. Stop being lazy and watch Dragonball.

Uh, yeah. That's exactly what it means. I mean, unless you have proof that Toei intended synthesized noise the entire time, but wasn't quite able to get somebody as untalented as Faulconer to do it.SSVegetto wrote:Just because it's the first one they came up with for DBZ. I don't care if the English dub's music is the greatest music ever recorded (and it's not... it's shit). It's not what Toei intended for the show. If they intended different music, they would have put it in.
The replacement score doesn't belong. It shouldn't be there. End of story.
Character motivations are minor details? Tone is a minor detail?minor details
You know, I don't get hung up on minor details between Japanese versions and English dubs. I get hung up on enormous details like those.

Back in 1986, Toei really wanted to use hot up-and-comer Bruce Faulconer's music. This made Shunsuke Kikuchi, who had become attached to scoring animated Toriyama material via Dr. Slump, very jealous. Thus, Kikuchi locked Faulconer in a dungeon for 13 years, and Toei had no choice but to settle for Kikuchi. Toei did realize the truth after ten years, and fired Kikuchi for it after the end of Dragon Ball Z. But they were unable to find Faulconer themselves, so they instead used Akihito Tokunaga to score Dragon Ball GT.Brad Redfield wrote:...Huh? However, in 1999, Gen Fukunaga successfully led an expedition to find Bruce Faulconer, and he was finally able to score music for Dragon Ball... at least until Kikuchi struck again. Kikuchi broke Faulconer's arms to the point of no recovery, so that Faulconer could never compose another melody again. FUNimation was forced to use other composers for the rest of the dub, until they realized they had to use Kikuchi's score for the sake of consistency. Toei learned of this further tragedy, and refused to rehire Kikuchi for Dragon Ball Kai because of it, so at least there is some justice in the world.

Hey, now I wouldn't completely diss the man. He's done a shit load of quality work for various eighties cartoons. He-Man for instance.B wrote:That shit was so awful, it's what prompted Fukunaga to search for Faulconer in the first place.penguintruth wrote:Kikuchi, that fiend!

Rumor has it that Falcouner is the one who truly scored all those hit series in Japan in the 60's and 70's instead of Kikuchi. That fiend Kikuchi stole all the credit but we know it was all Lord Bruce.TripleRach wrote:Back in 1986, Toei really wanted to use hot up-and-comer Bruce Faulconer's music. ...yes? It's certainly not about interpersonal relationships, or growing up/maturity or anything else but "I want you to hit me as hard as you can". Other stuff appears every now and then, but it is just tiny sparkles from the corner of one's eye as we barrel onwards to the next punch to the face.B wrote:Herpon Derp Z is about fighting ONLY.penguintruth wrote:Character motivations are minor details?
