Media Create is saying the PS3 version did 56,000 units in it's first week of release, with the Xbox version doing about 7000. Significantly lower then that VGChartz educated guess. It's also significantly lower then what Burst Limit did.
"I like the money it brings in, but Dragon Ball Heroes is the worst. That's actually the real reason I decided to start working on new material. I was afraid Bandai would make something irredeemably stupid like Super Saiyan 4 Broly." - Akira Toriyama, made up interview, 2013.

I want to see legit numbers from Bandai, I never trust VGChart and I don't even know who Media Create is. In all honesty, it would have been best for this game to wait a week or two after the MW2 release, they would have seen better results.Super Saiyan Prime wrote:Media Create is saying the PS3 version did 56,000 units in it's first week of release, with the Xbox version doing about 7000. ...Wait what are you doing? Are you still reading this? I finished what I had to say, why don't you move on to the next post?

I think it's because people are tried of DBZ games now. I think Burst Limit sold enough to become a greatst hits title for the Xbox360 and PS3 IIRC?Super Saiyan Prime wrote:Media Create is saying the PS3 version did 56,000 units in it's first week of release, with the Xbox version doing about 7000. Honestly, if Raging Blast is suffering from low sales, it's likely because a Dragon Ball simulator is at its core much more of a niche product than simply a Dragon Ball fighting game.
A simple overload of Dragon Ball games is possible (especially seeing as the Wii and DS also had new Dragon Ball releases) but I don't feel it's a large part of the problem.
If Raging Blast showed signs of being new or innovative or, well, anything but a half-hearted rehash of its predecessor, maybe it would sell more. I've played it, I've listen to the podcast, I've read the review; It's Sparking with the controls changed. Burst Limit did okay because, in my view, even though some dismissed it as a Budokai knockoff, it showed signs of effort.
Is it any wonder that people aren't camping out overnight at game stores to buy this?

Honestly this will NEVER happen, no matter how many new features are added to any Dragonball game. It doesnt matter if its coming from Dimps, Spike, or someone brand fucking new.Sprite Satan wrote: Is it any wonder that people aren't camping out overnight at game stores to buy this?
It's not too late. One day, it will be.

If they want a DB game to sell well then make a DB game that would look cool enough for everyone to buy. My friend of mine did not buy this game since he said it's looks like the same as the other DBZ games. I think a game similar to Jump Superstars or MK vs. DC would sell very well, and I think that would be a game that a lot of people would buy not just fans IMO.

How are people saying it looks too much like other games?
The only dbz games on a next gen system are Burst Limit and Raging Blast
Why WOULDNT you buy them?
Sure they're just BT or Budokai.
That's the point.
It's SUPPOSED to be that way, but on a 360 so you can have online capabilities, which the other games did not have

Media Create is the Japanese NPD, they're a group who tracks the sales numbers of games, etc. They're the best numbers you're going to get outside of the odd quarterly report rounded up numbers (or if you're Square Enix, VGChartz numbers).SparkyPantsMcGee wrote:I want to see legit numbers from Bandai, I never trust VGChart and I don't even know who Media Create is. Should also note, those are Japanese numbers, Modern Warfare 2 hasn't been released there. And the only other notable release for that week was a Megaman Battle Network x Starforce crossover that did 20,000 on DS.
DragonBall: Revenge Of King Piccolo (Wii), DragonBall: Evolution (PSP) both did pretty horrible (I'd say under 20,000 each in Japan). I suspect the later made some money (worldwide) because of it using other assets from the Shin Budokai titles. DragonBall Z: Infinite World (PS2), and DragonBall Kai: Saiyajin Raishuu (DS) both did well for their platforms in Japan. Raging Blast (PS3/360) is a step down from Burst Limit, and a huge drop from Sparking Meteor/Budokai Tenkaichi 3 (PS2/Wii).
With Kai airing on Japanese TV, Evolution, as well as an influx of new products, I expected higher numbers for Raging Blast and Revenge Of King Piccolo. They either have poor word-of-mouth, marketing, or are another sign that console's are on their death bed in Japan. I should note however, that DragonBall games still perform better then most of if not all other anime video games in Japan.

For all of 2 or 3 months it's sold the most, it is not the 'best selling', unless you only talk about 2 or 3 months.Pitzu wrote:PS3 is the best selling thing in Japan, even above the Wii and DS.
So it is far from the truth, if you live in a magical fairy land that is on a 2 month loop.

Uh, the only thing the PS3 has been outselling for a constant stream of time this year is the Wii, DS lite, 360, and PS2, four of which are other home consoles. The YTD (year to date) in Japan have the PS3 hugely behind the DSi, and PSP, as well as slightly behind the Wii (it's slightly ahead due to weeks where it did beat the PS3, Monster Hunter 3 week, etc.).Pitzu wrote:That is so far from the truth.Super Saiyan Prime wrote:console's are on their death bed in Japan.

I firmly believe the reason that this game sold poorly, is because Spike basically advertised that this game sucks.
The biggest new feature that was advertised was "you can smash people into walls now!". It showcased poor graphics, a terrible camera, less characters (which this game series seems to pride itself on), and even released a demo, revealing piss-poor controls. While most DBZ games bring something new to the table, Raging Blast brought absolutely nothing, except a few "what-if" characters, but even those were lame.
In reality, people were just waiting for SOMETHING to be announced, but nothing really ever was. Hopefully Spike will actually up their game for once next time around.

That's assuming that there is a next time. Anyone got a source to the rumor that Namco-Bandai won't put out a sequel if Raging Blast doesn't move units? Because . . . er, it ain't, so maybe we should worry.

God forbid they have to actually come up with a new game for once. Why should we worry at all? There's been four Sparking games at this point, do we really need more? You've got Sparking METEOR for the best gameplay, and Raging Blast for online, what else is there for Spike to do? Isn't it about time Namco Bandai actually make something new? I'd really love for them to put some effort into something that isn't one of the two same fighting games for the billionth time, and I hope the poor sales of Burst Limit and Raging Blast allow that to finally happen.Li'l Lemmy wrote:That's assuming that there is a next time.
