I don't think bashing other fandoms is allowed but I'll say this; Naruto fans deriding the Dragon Ball fanbase is extremely hypocritical and, for the most part, both fanbases have far more similarities than either side will ever care to admit.

Dragon Ball Z in particular may have a bad rep amongst anime 'purists', but it's not the purists who determine the popularity of the show in the end.

How do people justify saying that it's not real anime? I don't understand it. It fits every description of what an anime is. :?

I hope his smoking habit doesn't do him in.
The series doesn't start with the arrival of Raditz. Stop being lazy and watch Dragonball.

Yeah, I just don't see that as too old, I guess. Especially in this day and age.

Does he have health issues? I just have never heard anything.

It'll still be around. Think of all the old movies and books from decades (and in literature's case, centuries) ago that are still on the market today. I think its safe to say that DB will still exist in some form.
On hiatus.

Because we all know that if you work in the anime industry in Japan, it's rather easy to meet a reclusive mangaka who at this point only pops up every now and then to do some character designs (well that and supervising the Blue Dragon anime, but we all know how well that turned out ).

I'm sorry to rain on your parade, but your chances of meeting Akira Toriyama are pretty much el zilcho. He's not a mover and shaker in the industry that is going to take a precocious young get-goer with a sharp eye and a pocket full of dreams under his wing and mentor him on his way to the top. He's basically a hermit that sleeps on a pile of money every night in bumblefuck nowhere.

All you have to do is be directing a Dragon Ball movie. :P

Well he does speak out every now and again. He was one of the ones against flipping manga in countries outside Japan. Toriyama also inspired BLEACH's author to resubmit his work to Shonen Jump. In my opinion, he does what he wants because he can but he isn't this shadow recluse figure.

I think he used to smoke a lot if I recall correctly? I think in another 10 years then maybe this site might be around. People will be debating on which is better the original or the new (DBKAI) . Who knows maybe in 10 years, they will make a sequel to GT seeing that Toei will likely run of ideas maybe?

I remember seeing cigarettes in a sketch of his office labled something like "Cigarettes: Necessary for the stress of drawing manga." Can't remember what it said exactly.

As long as there is a demand for it, DragonBall will be around. It is a well known animé. It is popular all over the world. Over the years the demand may decrease, but there is a core audience which will always be there, so DragonBall will, in all likelihood, live for a long time yet.

I think that as long as the fans love and remember Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball will still be around for years to come. There's still new Dragon Ball merchandise coming out, like Dragon Ball video games (Raging Blast) and Dragon Ball Kai. Dragon Ball's been around for 25 years. It hasn't faded into obscurity, so I see a good future for Dragon Ball.

I've always thought that so long as the manga or anime exists, it will always endure. More people will eventually discover it, and with time, it might even be a sort of classic. But the fact that Dragon Ball Kai exists makes me think it might see new incarnations somewhere along the line.
