Dragonball 20th Anniversary Thread
Wow can't believe no one put a thread for this. It's been past 20 years since the original release date of Dragonball back in 84'. I'm just putting this up so people can share they're experiences with Dragonball (How'd they discovered it, get into it, & how do you feel about it now etc.,). My first experience with DB was back in 96' in it's original US release. I was always interested in the series. It was a very different show compared to other action cartoon series' I've seen like the Marvel & DC Animated shows. Though my first exposure to it was in 2000 after the Frieza arc had ended, Since then I've been hooked to the series & Toriyama's artwork. I've started looking up info for it & finding out a lot of things like the Androids arc & onwards, Weekly SJ, & other of Toriyama's works like Dr. Slump, Sandland, etc . DB was my door to Anime & amongst other Japanese-related things. Now that Toriyama is currently working on Neko Majin Z, I hope he continues to do so & that DB lives on through some other form of entertainment like the Video Games (DBZ Budokai Series & amongst other DBZ Atari titles), DVD re-releases (Ultimate Uncut Edition), & other things. DB itself has also inspired & open doors to the future generations of manga artists.
Edit: Yeah sorry about the misspell. Thanks to Julian for correcting it.

Uhhh... There was a giant contest celebrating the 20th anniversary. We've kinda mentioned it before. Not sure what you're so shocked about.
And your typing's still pretty bad. All of your parentheses always seem to have an extra space after the first one. Look at your name.

Why isn't it:

? It's in every other time you use parentheses, too.
Paragraphs would be nice, too.

I was first introduced to Dragon Ball with these guys I knew back in first grade always talking about it and playing with their DB toys. However facsinated I was with these golden-spikey-haired characters, I never really saw Dragon Ball until Z aired on Toonami. Then I got hooked, got really into it, got introduced to the manga a little later, and became a total freak about it. Probably my greatest inspiration in art came from DB, especially since at that time I was drawing more and honing my talent. That craziness over the series eventually died out, but I still liked DB a lot. 000000
What was really disappointing was the fact that I wasn't allowed to watch TV on weeknights, so the only time I could watch Dragon Ball/Z was when I secretly watched episodes when my parents didn't know or during the summer (at that time, DB wasn't on during weekends). Even more disappointing was the fact that new episodes only ever came out when school started back again, so I would be forced to miss the show and watch re-runs after having been told what happened. Ah, luckily I was introduced to the manga, and I found this little Japanese store that sold the tankoubon.
Now, Dragon Ball is one of the very few manga series I read. I'm a real sucker for nostalgia, and I've kept all my comics, tapes, cards, and toys of the series that I've accumulated over the years.

I was voted "most unique" and "most likely to become the next existential thinker" in high school.
