I guess what I mean is, It's hard for me to invite people over who I don't know very well. I could still invite friends and friends of friends, just not most of the meatheads at my school.FuniYamcha wrote:I don't mean to sound like a dick, but if you are "shy and nerdy" exactly how are you planning to get other people into DB? Okay, now I understand. Honestly, if you're describing them as meatheads, would you really want to befriend them? I may sound horribly negative, but really, if you aren't already friends with them, there's probably reasons for that such as not liking similar things, they just suck, etc.IncompetentOverlord wrote:I guess what I mean is, It's hard for me to invite people over who I don't know very well. Not a problem.

I guess you're right. Maybe I just included them in the description because I can't stand seeing my hobby bashed right and left. Let's just revise the criteria to "friends and family into DB".

Whether it's your friends or family, start them off at the beginning, Dragon Ball.
Pop in episode 1 via the blue bricks and just tell them to give it a chance. Make sure it's the dub with the Japanese BGM, as that's the way me and my friends watch the entire series.
Let them decide later if they wanna watch with the original audio...
It takes a while to get used to something. I never thought I'd like Bleach, but after seeing episode after episode, week after week, I can't get enough of it.

I've introduced my significant other to DB Lately, and we're on the Red Ribbon Army Arc. UNFORTUNATELY, I'm stuck watching it dubbed (I said it was OK as long as we switched to subbed when we got to the Saiyan Arc) and it's... grating... I just got to the General Blue "You must be gay" Joke, and they changed it TO A STUPID SUMO WRESTLING JOKE!! instead of saying "You must be gay" she says "I'm really a powerful sumo-wrestler!!"
.......
The Moral of the story is, in order to get a non-anime fan into DB, you have to sit through the dub unfortunately... and move them gradually into the Japanese version. Luckily, Drag-On Ball Z's reputation has preceded it, and so I was able to sell Kai as being the better watch when we get to the Saiyan Arc, and LUCKILY, Kai is ONLY available subbed!!

Well... I SUPPOSE I could sit through the dub If I really have to.... I guess it's worth the trade off.DemonRin wrote:I've introduced my significant other to DB Lately, and we're on the Red Ribbon Army Arc. Man, I hate that dub joke about Blue. Being gay is kinda the only thing seperating him from the other villains.
What I might do is switch to the subbed version every 10 episodes for 1 episode in the Pilaf and 21st Budokai arcs, then every 7 episodes in the RRA arc (possibly even going a few extra episodes in the dub just to show my family and friends that Blue is gay, and not searching for his fucking little brother), every 5 episodes in the Uranai Baba and 22nd Budokai, etc., etc.
Now to find the opportunity to begin showing it.....

Well if you are watching the dub there's the Coola movie dub... The "that's gay" crowd would probably eat that shit up. There's those other couple movie dubs too with the "OMG hardcore" soundtracks but I forget which ones.IncompetentOverlord wrote:Well... I SUPPOSE I could sit through the dub If I really have to.... Well... I probably won't show the DBZ movies until I'm up to that part of the show. By the time I show that movie, I'll already have them hookedgreenman wrote:Well if you are watching the dub there's the Coola movie dub... The "that's gay" crowd would probably eat that shit up. I know how you feel, My Parents think its a kid show and I get so embarrassed when my brothers friends come over and see me watching it. I literally have to stop in the middle of the episode before they walk in the room, so I am not made fun of. This should not happen to DBZ Fans at all!!!! Wish more people knew the meaning of the show and actually gave it a chance.IncompetentOverlord wrote:Well, recently, I was watching DBZ on my basement TV after school, when it occured to me how terribly..... lonely it was. My parents don't know what it's about, my friends only watch it occasionally, and most other students think of it as "Stupid and Gay and Stuff. You should just watch Pro Wrestling where grown men get oiled up grab each other."
My question is, how can I introduce my parents or other students to like DB/Z? Also, don't suggest anything to do with the dub, as I generally can't watch that without my brain trying to escape from my head.

This is what I do for pretty much anything I watch...Armymanis wrote:I literally have to stop in the middle of the episode before they walk in the room, so I am not made fun of. Avoiding the conversation of "What's that?" so tediously makes me feel like I'm watching bestiality porn or something. I hate having to explain shit to people who think it's just another cartoon, mainly other anime as well. Usually I can get away with "it's like Dragonball Z" or "Dragonball Z" for when I'm watching it lol.
But if I were to be caught watching some Super Sentai or something, then I have no excuses... the conversations that could sprout from "Japanese Power Rangers" are scary to think about.
