Post-Frieza villains/DB villians, among best of 2000s?

Post by Super Sonic » Tue Dec 08, 2009 7:43 pm

Know the series came out in the 80s and 90s originally, but due to the timing of the American release, would any of you guys consider the post-Frieza saga villains (including GT) and the DB villains among the best animation villains of the 2000s so far? Been talking to guys about favorites from this decade, and usually hear mentions of Slade, Azula, Aizen, Darkseid, or Shredder. But thought I'd ask if DB fans rate DB villains whose official US debut was in this decade if they would rate them up high among favorites of this decade.

Freeza's my personal favorite, and Cell and Buu don't really come close to topping him. Conceptually, both Baby and Omega Shenron were interesting villains, but in terms of execution, both were a bit weak.

If I had to pick one DBZ villain post-Freeza, it'd be Kid Buu just because the final battles of Z were pretty cool, but I don't know if I really consider Kid Buu (or any of the post-Freeza villains, for that matter) to be one of the best of the decade.

Gontenks Buu, since he is intellectual yet badass enough to provide with an interesting villian.

I'm sure Buu would make my list. He kills pretty much everyone on Earth, and then blows up the planet for good measure.

I think Bebi from GT was a good villian. The concept of him being the vessel of the Tuffle race (a la Brainiac) was kind of cool. Also he actually came close to winning.

What I found interesting, was how he turned the tables by enslaving all of Earth, taking over his nemesis Vegeta, and making Goku the odd man out when he returned from space.

In a warped way, Goku was the villian and Bebi was protecting his planet from him. He had the support of the whole planet (although they were enslaved), Goku's and Vegeta's kids and wife rallied behind him, and he even had his own version of the Spirit Bomb.

Even though this arc could have been done better, it's refreshing to see a villian win or come close compared to Amerian cartoons where the villian rarely wins on the grand scale.

I like your points and I agree.
Bebi was easily one of the best villain concepts in all three Dragonball series'. When you read the summaries it makes GT sound like the most awesome thing ever. I hope somehow he gets a chance to be done over a little bit more appropriately.

Hmm... Freeza is definitely a good villain. But while he's definitely got a sadistic streak, he's not crazy. All my favorite villains are just simply batshit insane.

Like this guy:

Or this guy:

And let's not forget about this lunatic:

Or that, um... thing?:

Oh wait... He doesn't count for 2000s; but then again, neither does Dragon Ball.

Now that I think about it, do any of Dragon Ball's villains really count as insane? Maybe Chibi Buu... (It's been too long since I saw those episodes and I wasn't paying much attention by that point.)

I would suggest re-uploading those images yourself to a different host. The third image doesn't allow hot linking.
