Complete Japanese Score?
So, I've decided to see if I can get myself accostommed to the Japanese Score fo Dragonball. I've been thinking about it, and I want to see if I can like the music better if I'm listening to it from just a musical persepective, and then moving on to hearing it in the show.
But I'm not sure which CD's to purchase, seeing as how there are at least 100 CD's out over in Japan. At least for us Dub Fans, there are only 9 volumes for us to get, and that's that. No multiple releases featuring the same exact songs that have been out forever. XD
Anyway, I'm wondering: What's the CD release that has the most complete collection of the Japanese score?

In terms of score for the TV series (we'll ignore movies), there are really only two sets that even include any in the first place:
- The 5-disc "DragonBall & DragonBall Z" daizenshuu set (1994)
- The 3-disc "DragonBall Z BGM Collection" set (2006)
(It's mainly the vocal stuff [and especially all the image songs] that get repackaged again and again and again.)
The former has Disc 2 with all original-DB BGM, while Disc 4 has all DBZ BGM.
The latter is exclusively DBZ BGM, and contains even more pieces than were included on the daizenshuu set.
(There are also soundtracks for some of the movies, but if you pick up the "BGM Collection" set, you're going to end up basically all of that stuff, too, anyway.)

- DBZ BGM Collection @ Play-Asia: $44.91
- DBZ BGM Collection @ Play-Asia: ~$50

Well, all of the first TV series' BGMEx-Dubbie369 wrote:I was wondering about the Daizenshuu set. Are there any BGM pieces exclusive to that set?

As for DBZ, off the top of my head, I believe that the 3-disc "BGM Collection" had everything it had (and a lot more, though still not everything).

Those are on Disc 5 of the daizenshuu set, along with BGM for DBZ movies 1-9.Ex-Dubbie369 wrote:Well, what I haven't found were the scores for the DB movies. How about those?

Ah, okay! So, it seems those are those are the ones to get. Yeah, as far as actual songs go, I actually did purchase LEGEND OF DRAGONWORLD way back when you recommended it for me after I asked a similar question.VegettoEX wrote:In terms of score for the TV series (we'll ignore movies), there are really only two sets that even include any in the first place:

Well... not all of it... the individual releases for Movies 8, 10 and 11 contain virtually their movies' whole soundtracks (give or take on the part of the former two), while the BGM Collection gives us only a 6-part suite for Movie 8 (with three other pieces scattered over the set), an 8-part suite for 10, and a 9-part suite for 11.VegettoEX wrote:(There are also soundtracks for some of the movies, but if you pick up the "BGM Collection" set, you're going to end up basically all of that stuff, too, anyway.)
Other than the DragonBall TV and movie music on disc 2 and disc 5 (like Mike said), there is an alternate of "Garlic Jr.'s Henchmen Introduce Themselves" from DBZ Movie 1, on disc 4, track 10. Maybe not worth getting a whole CD set for, but hey, there's still the DragonBall music.Ex-Dubbie369 wrote:I was wondering about the Daizenshuu set. Are there any BGM pieces exclusive to that set?
All in all, get both the Daizenshuu and BGM Collection if you can, if you want both DragonBall and DragonBall Z music, and I've got an information website if you're interested in seeing what plays on what CDs and in what episodes and movies.
BGM forever! If only more people paid attention to it... well, I intend to change that.
