Personally, I find it boring when people just copy a preexisting style for something. If you don't do it with absolute perfection ala Announcerguy it just comes off as a lame imitation with nothing new brought to the table. I've always found it much more interesting when people use their own styles and interpretations of things in their art.

Re:
Well, even Shinpan's art style isn't EXACTLY like Toriyama's. But that's just fine, because she does bring something new to it anyway. She's got some kind of touch with it that makes it unique and appealing among all the art that uses Toriyama's style as a base. So I will never grow tired of what she does with it.Velasa wrote:Personally, I find it boring when people just copy a preexisting style for something. She IS one of the exceptions, though. In general, I also prefer fanart that isn't mimicking/copying the style from the manga or the anime. Copying (note that I didn't say "tracing") a style in order to practice and learn from it is one thing, and I'm fine with that. But, I find fanart that's done with different and more personal styles much more appealing. Realistic Dragonball is awesome when it's pulled off successfully. But there's also stuff like this:
http://dabean.deviantart.com/art/Dinner ... -127842728
http://javas.deviantart.com/art/Goku-Ka ... u-46909762
I would personally rate this stuff even above the work of artist the OP linked to. This stuff brings something fresher and more interesting to the fanart scene and gives us a view of the same characters that we haven't really thought about before. Basically, it's more original (relatively speaking, anyway, considering that this is fanart we're talking about).
I don't know about some of you guys, but I know I get tired of seeing the same characters and scenes rendered in nearly the exact same style in fanart after fanart after fanart. It's great if you can do it by your own hand, and do it well, like how Dokuro used to do it (I'm sure that she's developed her style a lot since then, though I don't know if she really does much Dragonball fanart anymore). But even then, it's not as good as, say, if you went completely bonkers with experimenting with something more personal. That's to say nothing of stuff that looks like it was directly copied or traced. I'm sorry, but that stuff can get downright boring to look at. And there's so much of it, unfortunately. How long can you really go looking at the same style of art for this series before your brain gets numb to it? :/
Alright, I think I'll get off of my soapbox here. Thanos, I do realize you were just wanting to share how awesome this girl's stuff was. So, I will say that I agree with Scarz; she does seem to have a pretty good sense of humor. That did make going through her gallery a bit more interesting.
EDIT: I just noticed that I've necroposted again, or at least, I'm pretty damn close to it. FFFFFF... sorry. @_@
Also, I've realized that this post is basically just a longer version of the same thing Velasa said. Why can I not read better.
Art, etc. links taken down for now. Will be updated at some point. I dunno.

Considering that the previous post was not even two weeks ago, and the forum's been out-of-commission for a whole week until today... I think I'll let it slide. ;DKinoFourpaws wrote:EDIT: I just noticed that I've necroposted again, or at least, I'm pretty damn close to it. FFFFFF... sorry. @_@

Hands down, Gothax has some of the best work I've ever seen. That dude can freakin' draw. I only wish I could do the same, but I can't.

Just saying. I'm also an artist, and it's such a shame that these "artists" get credit for traced "art" like this. But what can you do...

Blunter than I would have put it, but indeed... >_> I still stand by what I said about copying, and I suppose there's no way to tell if this is really tracing, but still.Bura wrote:HOLY CRAP!!!

Yeah I've been following Gothax for about 6 months, but anyway how do you guys know its traced? Maybe he's just that good, even if he uses similar poses, because I do the samething sometimes and I never trace but then again I dont do fanart.

Re: One of the best DB/Z fanartists I've ever seen
Well even before Bura showed good evidence that Gothax traced a lot of his work I knew he was doing so. That being said it does not mean he is a mere plagerist. I have faved many of his works on Deviantart and quite a few are original. I think his coloring should be admired more than his line work though.goku the krump dancer wrote:Yeah I've been following Gothax for about 6 months, but anyway how do you guys know its traced? Speaking from an artist's POV, tracing and copying are often good ways to get yourself "started" and practice. It helps you learn how things are arranged and put together, and especially learn where and how details work when you're trying to imitate a certain style.

Re: One of the best DB/Z fanartists I've ever seen
I agree, I also started out by doing so. But saying someone is a great artist who does JUST that, I don't know... But I agree, he does nice coloring work.
