Intro artwork

Post by SuperFusion » Thu Mar 10, 2005 7:17 pm

I'm wondering who does all the intro animation, backgrounds and stuff... It doesen't seem like Akira Toriyama's art style to draw like that. So, who does? :O

Beat "Dragon Universe," watch the end credits, and look at all the names for animators.

It's not like it's inherently hard to copy someone's art style. Were that the case, it would be impossible to make anime, since a single person can't animate an entire cartoon on their own. Nevermind doujinshi.

And Nakatsuru-sensei draws Toriyama-sensei better than Toriyama-sensei.

EX, is there a site with Nakatsuru's art? I'd like to see all his pieces.

What's their full name? Katsuyoshi Nakatsuru?

The only thing I didn't like about the Budokai intro animations was that the colours seemed a little off to me. The skintones looked "browner" than I was used to in the cartoon, where they're a little more pink and pale. :P
And in Budokai 3, when Gohan (?) is fighting Metal Cooler I think, his hair was like a single flat shade of orange. No form or shine to it. :?

I think some characters... and muscles look a bit off too. But it's still a swell animation. XD

For some reason... the art in the Budokai 2 and 3 openings reminded me of One Piece...

Are they the same animators?

I only played Budokai 3, and saw Budokai 2's intro from the Crystal ball things. I've never seen the intro for the first one though, what was that like? I thought I heard they recreated the Japanese anime's intro in 3D?

Yeah, B1's intro was just Head Cha-La in 3D. They only used two - one for the Saiyans and Freeza saga, and the appropriate one for the Artificial Humans,.

Well, they're probably all done by Toei animators. >.>

I noticed that too, but it wasn't a big deal. The one I did really notice though was Piccolo's skintone, which just seemed... I dunno, off.

Naw, not Budokai 3. Toei's animation didn't change that much over the years. Look at Frieza's face for instance. That is not the same guy we saw sliced in two.

What I'm saying is that all of the characters just look...different.

They're too thin. All of them. But it's most apparent with Gogeta when he goes to blast Brolly. They're all wrong though. Like that scene with Bulma and the others, you can see it there too. I think maybe they drew it wind screen and then it was stretched or something... or everyone went on a diet.

But could it be plausible that the animators who did the original series were fired? (points at Triangle-Crap guy)

And as for errors in the art... there's more than just being thin... Here are just some things I noticed: Coolers bird-foot, Gohan's hair, Gogeta's wristband changing magically, and Yamcha wearing a combination of hair and gi seen but a mere once in the entire series.

Not to mention that opening is a continuity nightmare altogether...

I saw a video of that, but I didn't see it in the European version. Is it included?

Anyway, about B3's opening...I noticed those differences and the first impact was a bit awkward, but the music is cool and so is the entire video.

The way I saw it was that since Gohan was SSJ, his hair looked dark/orange because of shadowing. The source of light was in front of him. Of course, we never saw this in the series, but as people have mentioned, it's different animators here doing their own style.

Are you guys serious? You actually don't like the intro from a few minor errors only people who actually go back and look for this stuff would notice? the only one noticable was Gohan's hair. The others you would have to actually look to find them. The characters fighting enemies at random is a good thing because it's a 'video game.' Your character is only as strong/skilled as you are. Unless you just don't like the intro's flow. But, meh. My opinion. ~.^

Nope, I'm American. But I don't think anyone was saying they didn't like the intro, people were just pointing out a couple of minor inconsitencies. I for one, think the intros for B2 and B3 are great.

I just noticed, watching an episode of DBZ last night; on the new game / load game screen, Pan is holding Bee as a puppy. But, by the time Pan was around (even at the end of DBZ, let alone during GT), Bee was a bigger, older dog.
...but the music is cool and so is the entire video.
Yeah, I love the music. I think it's at its best when it's being played during a fight in the tournament ring. :D

Hmm..never thought of it that way. But I still just don't like that it looks so flat that way. :(

Triangular?
I was going to say that...

The triangle crap was used in the series right? In think that guy animated the episode where Frieza killed Dende. He sucks man, really. If I could find a picture I would post it. But yea, check out that episode and you will know exactly what episodes he did.

EDIT: Image

Look familiar?

Notice the triangular feet and Frieza's distored body. He looks really slim and sickly.

But the triangle man does have some really good work at times.

Err...I wish I could find some better pictures of his good work.
