At the start of the dragon ball z series what did gokus gi say before he was given his new one from the lord of worlds.

IIRC "Kame" [turtle]. Unless he got a other one from his Kami-training...

I believe he did, but following the 23rd World Tournament, Kami gave Goku a gi with the symbol of the Turtle School on it. He said it 'Suited him better'.

It wasn't so much that he gave him a new one as it was that Gokuu's clothes were all ripped up from fighting Piccolo, so Kami just restored the Kame one, which Gokuu had been wearing at the 23rd Budoukai all along anyway, along with Yamcha and Kuririn.

All he has are Kame, Kaiou, Go, and the plain ones.

Actually, when he first arrived at the tournament, he was wearing a different set of clothing (it was blue, and he has a turban on his head). Right before the elimination rounds, he put on his orange gi, which he made himself.

After Kami kind of 'formed clothing on Goku' he said something along the lines of:

"Here's your uniform, with the crest of the Turtle school. I believe it suits you much better."

Now, that's from the dub, so it could be completely off, but it makes perfect sense to me considering Kami talked briefly with Roshi a minute earlier about how Roshi taught Goku his basic skills.
