Episode #0206! VegettoEX, Meri, and Julian remember one of the great anime voice actors, Daisuke Gôri, who recently passed away. What made his performance of roles such as Mr. Satan so undeniably memorable? Home video and game news from across the world, February's releases, and tons of your comments round out the episode. One of the saddest episodes indeed. :(

It's unfortunate I haven't seen much of DBZ anime, but at least I watched GT and movies 9, 11 and 12 and I liked Mr. Satan in them.

Speaking of the his moments in the movies, you didn't mention the mess he got himself into with 18 and Jaguar's Bio-Henchmen in Movie 11 ... but it's understandable, since it's about the spawn of Hedora -_-.

We will miss the great champion.

Lastly, two notes.

One, I noticed for the third time that you turn the number 0 Zero from my username to the letter O. The "03" stands for the year 2003. I don't mean to whine, but I'm nit-picky by nature when it's something related to me.

Two, since you don't have a topic for the next episode, why don't you give the poor dude a break and give him his long awaited episode?! And by "Poor Dude", I mean Yamcha... not Namu...!

In English, it's actually fairly common to read "Zero Three" as "Oh-Three" and still mean a number and not an alpha-number combination. Unless I'm missing your point.

Man, I got weepy reflecting on Gouri-sama's legacy and listening to all of you on the podcast list some of the best moments of his role as Mr. Satan. I think the best way to honor his memory is to continue to enjoy his voice acting work without regret. Still, it is will be hard for a while . . .

I also don't blame Yuko Minaguchi for her reaction to this sad news and the future of Dragonball Kai. I mean, they really had a chemistry that translated to their characters and that's something that could never be replaced. I hope that Mr. Satan's voice is not changed for the Kai release but that may be hard to do.

That's probably what he means. I'm not entirely sure if it's a regional thing, either, but it's something I know I've always said my whole life. It's just like the Tommy Tutone song "867-5309/Jenny" which gets sung as "eight-six-seven-five-three-oh-nine".

Dammit. Now that song is stuck in my head.

To keep the lighter mood going on, IIRC BT3 was just recently re-released under Bandai's "Super Price" (or some equivalent) label last month on Wii. I was going to mention it, but forgot about it...

I love what I'm hearing about DBO. Gohan introducing ki control to the general public! Kuririn starting a New Kame School! Buu creating Buuby! The Namekians being screwed again (poor bastards)! It really seems like the whole DB world is advancing. Love Toriyama's brain still working in the DB world. If only Toei could make a series about this. On second thought...

Daisuke Gori was one of those guys I didn't miss until I knew he was gone. Before he passed, I had no idea just how prolific he'd been in shows I watched. Dozle Zabi, Bask Om, Ovlesser, Hiromi Yamazaki, Saranbou, Gyuumao, Umigame, and Mr. Satan... these roles may not have been the biggest ones, but they were definitely woven into my consciousness as far as VAs.

One of my favorite performances of his is as Ovlesser in Legend of the Galactic Heroes. He's this huge brute of a soldier working for Empire seperatists, for the aristrocrats who don't like Reinhard von Lohengramm (who is played by Ryo Horikawa). Reinhard's soldiers assume they will definitely have to kill him, but he has them capture him instead. They do, and then they return him to the leaders of the seperatists, to stir up suspicion. They turn on Ovlesser and he goes out in a blaze of brutality, eventually having to have his brain blown out.

He sounds so barbaric and savage in this role. It's a fairly minor role, but if you watch the series, it's definitely memorable.

Anime has lost a great VA. Yuko Minaguchi's words about not wanting to be Videl in Kai because of his death makes me want to hug her, because she seems really broken up about it.

It also makes me fret for the other VAs involved in Dragon Ball and other classic shows.

My memory was wrong. It was DragonBall Z: Sparking! Neo that got re-released in November under Namco Bandai's "Welcome Price 3800". PlayAsia has the deets.
