Super Famicom Dragon Ball Game Numbers?
Super Famicom Dragon Ball Game Numbers?
Hi all,
Just today I recieved some Super Famicom games in the mail, including Dragon Ball Z: Chou Saiya Densetsu and Dragon Ball Z Super Butouden. Interestingly, on the side of each box, the have a number (Saiya Densetsu saying "03" and Super Butouden saying "08"). At first, I thought this might correlate to the number of Dragon Ball games on the SFC (e.g. Gokuden 1 and 2 came before Saiya Densetsu, thus making it 03), but this didn't work. There aren't even 8 Dragon Ball SFC games, let alone 7 games prior to Butouden. So basically, my question is, what do these numbers mean?
And, on a side note, I also got Dragon Quest V on SFC. In the instruction booklet there are numerous, chibi-style panels. Given that Toriyama does all the artwork for the DQ games, I was wondering if anyone knows whether he might have drawn them (the art sorta reminds me of some of the chibi-ish scenes he did at the beginning of Dragon Ball). I'll post some if anyone's interested.
Thanks a lot!

I asked this a few years ago... I never got an answer. Maybe we will now? ::shrugs::

Re: Super Famicom Dragon Ball Game Numbers?
Is there anything written around the number? Could you post a picture?
I've heard that 8 people can play in Super Butouden's tournament mode, and I think I remember that you can have 3 party members in battle at once in Super Saiya Densetsu, so maybe that's what the 08 and 03 signify? Apart from that, I have no idea.

Herms: Good theory, but in Chou Saiya Densetsu you can have way more than 3 party members. Actually, in the final Frieza battle (assuming you kept everyone alive) you have Goku, Gohan, Piccolo, Vegeta, Tenshinhan, Yamucha, Chaozu and Kuririn.
Here are some pictures (sorry for the quality in some of them, bad camera):

As you can see, nothing is written around the number at all...umm...they do have serial numbers. Chou Saiya Densetsu is SHVC-DB and Butouden is SHVC-Z2. Apart from that though, I can't find anything on the box which would indicate the number's reason (although Saiya Densetsu's box does contain some truly fantastic Engrish
).
EDIT: Oh, thanks VegettoEX! That's very interesting...but makes even less sense than it did before
I understand that Hyper Dimension would have the highest number because it was the last to be released on the SFC, but 46 is quite a jump from 03.
Hmm...

That's Legend of the Super Saiya-jin, right? In that case you can have up to 5 active fighters in your party.Super Saiya Densetsu
Edit: Hah, beaten to the punch.
Hmm, those numbers are odd.
Edit 2: Maybe it's a company series/release number? Like, LotSSJ was their 3rd game for the SFC and Hyper Dimension their 46th?

Ah, OK. I guess I was thinking of Attack of the Saiyans or something.ACCloud wrote:Herms: Good theory, but in Chou Saiya Densetsu you can have way more than 3 party members. Well, there's no "jin" in the title, it's just "Super Saiya" rather than "Super Saiya-jin" for some reason.Xyex wrote:That's Legend of the Super Saiya-jin, right?
So do any other Japanese SNES games have these numbers? Or is it just limited to DB games?

Re: Super Famicom Dragon Ball Game Numbers?
I can't seem to find any other Bandai or general SFC games with numbers like these. They seem to be limited only to Dragon Ball games.

Re: Super Famicom Dragon Ball Game Numbers?
OK, so combining the info/pictures provided by ACCloud and Mike, and looking through Daizenshuu 7's merchandise section, here are the numbers on the boxes of all seven DB Super Famicom games.
Super Saiya Densetsu: 03
Chou Butouden: 08
Chou Butouden 2: 13
Chou Butouden 3: 22
Chou Goku Den 1: 31
Chou Goku Den 2: 36
Hyper Dimension: 46
No numbers like these are evident on the covers of any DB games on other systems, and they don't seem to be found on any other Super Famicom games.

Re: Super Famicom Dragon Ball Game Numbers?
Thanks for that Herms
So...looking for some logical pattern...
The first 3 games' numbers go up by 5 each time...Then they go up by 9 for the next 2...then 5 again...and then, finally, 10.
...logic has failed me...

Re: Super Famicom Dragon Ball Game Numbers?
A quick search on ebay solved the mystery of this thread.
It's a Bandai Games number. I think.
I searched for "super famicom bandai" and I found this.
http://cgi.ebay.com/SFC-SNES-MAZINGER-Z ... 53df0fd873
There's your number 09. There are some other results, but none with a number prominent on the front like the DBZ games ACCloud has. And of course, none of the auctions have a picture of the spines. But oh well.
I win.
Edit: Wait... Mazinger Z is also a Toei thing. Would Toei really have 40+ games on the SFC though? Bandai makes more sense, but it might be a Toei deallymabob.
Edit2: Ok, it's not a Toei thing. It's definitely a Bandai thing. Fist of the North Star games aren't numbered (as far as I can tell from these pics anyways)

http://cgi.ebay.com/SFC-HOKUTO-no-KEN-6 ... 25571972c3
And I've managed to find some more numbers.
(I'm sure I'm wrong on the full names)

Ha, so I was right. Awesome~It's a Bandai Games number. I think.
Rather an odd thing to do, though. Guess they were trying to 'convince' people to buy all of there games so they could have the 'complete set' of them.
