Yeah, you've got to love the dub for shoehorning in completely made up and out of character nonsense in a clumsy attempt to try to redeem a character who for all intents and purposes is a murderous asshole.

As for what I think, Kuririn's death at the hands of tambourine, the anime handled it perfectly and Masako Nozawa does an amazing job as Goku.

Fair enough if that's how you saw it, but the way I saw it with the dub it felt like much more.

Which is completely fair if you prefer the scene, it is however not even remotely accurate to the original.

Hey, I got to thinking. Wasn't there already a "Most emotional scene in Dragon Ball" thread before, or is my memory just foggy?

There's no one scene in Dragon Ball that stands out as being more emotional than any other - there's a whole bunch of top-tier scenes that are more or less equal scattered throughout - but if I had to pick a favorite I think I might go for Goku's reunion with Grandpa Gohan. Only time in the series that Goku actually cries (He does so again at Kuririn's first death, but he's a lot more composed and restrained that time; with Grandpa Gohan he's a sobbing mess). That's the one thing I don't like about the Wedding Filler at the end of Dragon Ball. Goku shows such a... standard, unremarkable response to seeing Grandpa Gohan. He doesn't have to cry again or anything, but his nonreaction was kind of boring, and it's extremely stale compared to their previous meeting.

For me it was either the redubbed version of Vegeta's death scene mainly because of Vegeta's performance, or when everyone found out about Gohan and Vegeta being killed (well, Gohan was alive, but you get the point).
Yamcha: Do you remember the spell to release him - do you know all the words?
Bulma: Of course! I'm not gonna pull a Frieza and screw it up!
Master Roshi: Bulma, I think Frieza failed because he wore too many clothes!

The scene in Dragon Ball GT where Goku Jr. and Vegeta Jr. are fighting at the Tenkaichi Budokai and Pan sees Goku for a second and then he fades away. I don't know why but that part always gets to me.

I have a three way tie. The first is probably Tenshinhan's death in the anime. It's what first got me really interested in Dragonball. Other than that, I always have to bring a hanky when I watch Kuririn's death in the Piccolo Daimao arc or the end of GT. The end of Z is also extremely emotional for me, but it always cheers me up.

Mine would be the scene before Majin Vegeta blows himself up, when he is holding Trunks, asks Piccolo about the afterlife, and the internal convo he has with himself about why he's doing it.

For DragonBall, it would be when Tien had to go get a DragonBall from someone whom he'd beaten in a Tournament, and he had broken the man's legs. Tien gets down on his knees and says the man can break a few bones if he would like, if he can have the DragonBall.

Ooh wow, very well remembered.

I also remember when Tien Shinhan and Roshi have that talk about being evil and fighting for good. at the 22nd Tenkaichi Budokai.

I wasn't affected at all, but my brother was crying when Piccolo shot Raditz and Goku in Kai, altough he saw Z before with Goku living and kicking, fighting with Freeza......

No, you're right, there was a thread like this a few months ago. These kind of threads get posted again every once in a while. There's nothing wrong with it, unless someone posts a new thread exactly like this shortly after another like it was posted a week or so before.

Anyway, the most emotional scene for me is the destruction of Planet Vegeta. It's too bad Bardock never gets to see his son when he grows up....

But he does see Goku when he is grown up. He saw him standing up against Freeza because Bardock has future seeing powers.

Oh, that's right. I forgot about that.

Well, I meant it in that he never sees him in person in real life. Still sad nonetheless.

It's hard to pick a 'most' because different things effect me more or less at different times. But just a small handful...

The first that actually came to mind when I read the topic was the last time we see Ranchi during the Sayiajin fight. The colors are dark, the background quiet- everyone else in the world is somewhere else waiting to die but this beautiful woman is crumpled over a bar in a lonely hole drinking herself into oblivion. The money isn't worth anything anymore, nothing really is. I had wanted to see this scene for years and wasn't even sure exactly where it was located, so it just seemed especially powerful and sad to me.

On a similar theme there's the cut to Kame house after Yamcha dies. Dragonbox was the first time I had seen the Sayiajin Saga in its original form, so the impact of a death was almost overwhelming- no immediate blathering about "oh, we got dragonballs, who cares", no perk back up after seven seconds. It lasts, and it hurts, and these people are hurting and it's well animated and acted and just shit man. I was tearing up way beyond my fondness for Yamcha because everyone else's loss was just so tangible.

An example that would be much more personal to me is the death of the three young Nameccian warriors who come in to protect Muuri, Dende and Cargo >_< I don't think I'll even be able to watch it unedited when I get to it. It was basically the second thing I ever saw in the series and made a lot of connections to another show that was of huge importance to me back at that age, it's largely responsible for my continued watching of the show and my love of the Namekseijin as a people. I just can't watch it because if effing hurts too much.

For me, when Goku finds Krillin dead at the tenkaichi Budokai. I remember when saw that episode in the anime for the first time, i almost cried lol.
That was the first important death in the story, if my memory serves me right, and the fact that it was totally unexpected makes really emotional, even more so with Goku's reaction.
Yes, Goku visited me once. He turned to me while I was still speechless, and said, "You've drank too much"...

I really hope I'm not Necro-Posting here but for me, I think Yamucha's death and Bulma and Kuririn remembering their friends are a couple of the most emotional scenes in the series (I'm referring to the JPN version of these scenes).

What really gets me about Yamucha's death is how Pau'r starts to bang on the TV yelling "Yamucha-Sama! Yamucha-Sama!". Then Bulma tries to hold herself together while watching her dead boyfriend on the screen. When Muten Roshi puts his hand on her shoulder, the most heart-wrenching part is when she just scream "Iya!" and starts to sob into his chest. I can't help but tear up everytime I watch it. The music playing adds to the sadness that's going on in the scene.

Later on, when they are remembering Yamucha, Tenshinhan, and Piccolo, the part where Bulma remembers her and Yamucha's time together is sad but when Kuririn remembers how they died, the bit where the music swells up to this climax as Piccolo is shown sacrificing himself for Gohan just tugs at my heartstrings.

This lets you know that the entire Dragonball series (be it he ENG dub or the original JPN version) is a well crafted story with many emotional points.

The credits for the Bardock special. It gives you this feeling that Bardock will never be apart of Goku's life.

The final episode of GT. It may have been filler, but it was a darn good end to the series. That is the only time (Besides Brooke's story in One Piece and the end of Gurren Lagann) where I actually teared up in an anime/manga.
