Terrible Thai and Portuguese Dubs

Post by TheLiberator » Tue Feb 02, 2010 11:23 pm

Recently, kei17 posted up two clips, one from the Thai dub, and the other from the Portuguese dub on his Youtube account to show off how hilariously bad they are. I'm surprised he hasn't posted them up here yet. Here are the links:

They're both equally bad. But what the hell is up with Tenshinhan's Portuguese voice? Sounds like a 16-year-old, wheezy, fat, pissed-off cat.

Isn't the Portuguese dub a joke dub? I think it's supposed to be hilariously bad on purpose. As for the Thai dub, well...yeah that was bad.

I had a good laugh at all those stereotypical kung-fu noises in the Portuguese dub.

''Hallelujah Cell!'' ''Senkan?''

That Thai dub is actually pretty funny, reminds me things like Sezame Street.
That Portuguese dub, that's really bad, Tenshinhan is like horny Yorkshire and whole dub reminds me some early Czech porn dubs.
FighterZ, Street Fighter 6, Mortal Kombat: Funky_Strudel

God, in that Portuguese clip, I lose it every time I see that scene where their faces pan across the screen at 0:31!

"Kenshi is sitting down right now drawing his mutated spaghetti monsters thinking he's the shit..."--Neptune Kai
"90% of you here don't even know what you're talking about (there are a few that do). But the things you say about these releases are nonsense and just plain dumb. Like you Metalwario64"--final_flash

Honestly, I like the Portuguese Dub more than the american one. Maybe for nostalgic reasons and because its goofiness fits Dragon Ball well... All I know is that I can`t stand the american one but I can perfectly stand the portuguese one.

That being said, to be fair, that clip is one of the worst of the Portuguese Dub in my opinion.

Cell sounds like he's having the time of his life getting swung around by Trunks. Like a kid on a swing-set.

That's from extreme to other extreme...... There is too much fun in Portuguese and US dub is trying to be serious.

I agree with you. But too much fun I can can handle. Especially considering the goofy nature of Dragon Ball. Its just my personal opinion.

The portuguese dub almost looks like it tries to do a abridged version of DBZ. There are amazing jokes in there

Freeza actually said to the audience that if they didn`t have school to stick around that he was going to beat some ass...
Vegeta used to recite musical notes when he was beating someone...
Cell always added "dabadabada" to his sentences for no good reason...
Goku called Yakon Miss Portugal 97...

Those are just a few examples. In paper it doesn`t sound good, but it was actually funny as hell

This is what I think that Cell is saying in the Thai dub:

"Stop that, ha ha, seriously, stop it tickles...HAHA, dude, it's not funny, let me go! Ha ha ha..."

As for the Portuguese dub, I suspect some alcohol and too much Kung-fu movies prior to the dubbing. :P

For the record, the scene shown with the portuguese dub used to have an insert song in the japanese version. It was removed in the dub, which is probably why they came up with those ridiculous "kung fu noises", in order to have SOMETHING in there. Doesn't make it any less ridiculous, but it does explain something, I guess.

I'm Portuguese and I absolutely loathe the dub :|
And that's not even Tenshinhans normal voice, that must have been his "test" voice, yes they did a lot of those. His voice was normally that of a young man with throat cancer. Nice!
Saying that the Portuguese dub was bad in purpose is wishful thinking. The dub company is named Mandala and they made a bunch of dubs around the mid 90's and all of them are absolutely appalling. I have to disagree with rereboy, the jokes aren't funny, granted I laughed every once in a while, but it was one of those sad laughs where you giggle only because it's so fucking horrible that you can't even believe. Sadly the only really hardcore fan of Dragon Ball that I happen to know in real life is not only a dub fan but never actually watched much besides DBZ. It frustrates me so much... I remember talking to her about the battle between Jackie Chun and Son Goku and she goes like "oh.. never really watched that", I was left in shock and horror T_T

In sum, I hate the Portuguese dub, it's a pile of shit. The Thai dub made me laugh because Cell is really enjoying it, they should have thrown a little "weeee" sound to make it even better :D
