Killing off Goku for Gohan
Killing off Goku for Gohan
I remember hearing this rumor a long time ago, that Akira's original intention was to make Gohan the main character of the Z series, any truth to this? I remember reading an interview were he says fans convinced him to keep vegeta and that a lot of dbz plot's, etc were influenced by fans writing him letters.

From Daizenshuu 2, via Kanzentai:
Aaaaand, this is from My Favorite Games. They say it's from a U.S. Shonen Jump interview, and they've got the cover of it showcasing "INTERVIEW WITH AKIRA TORIYAMA", but still... MFG.Q: And then the Cell arc ended. Did you think that everyone felt you would put Gohan into the leading role?
A: I intended to put Gohan into the leading role. It didn't work out. I felt that compared to Goku, he was ultimately not suited for the part.
Q: I've heard that many plot developments in Dragon Ball were influenced by letters from readers, is this true, and if so, can you give us a concrete example?
A: Parts of it were, yes, for example, take Vegeta when he first appeared as a bad guy, but because he became very popular, he stayed in the series from that point on.

What should have happened was:
While training with the Zsword when Goku went to the Kai planet, he should have taught Gohan Instant Transmission. And while Goku and Vegeta are fighting Kid Buu, Gohan uses it and owns Kid Buu and he is the one to defeat him.

Goku's the heart and soul of the Dragon Ball mythos. Giving the duty of Earth's protector to someone who didn't even like fighting in the first place would've been weird.

I always considered Goten as in ill-fated attempt to replace Goku in the series. What better way to replace a character than with an exact replica? It's perfect, except for the fact that it didn't work.
I wipe it off the tile, the light is brighter this time, everything is 3D blasphemy.
My eyes are red and gold, the hair is standing straight up, this is not the way I picture me.
I can't control my shakes, how the hell did I get here? Something about this, so very wrong.
I have to laugh out loud, I wish I didn't like this. Is it a dream or a memory?

He had to give his legacy to someone, I guess. Even if it was a pussy who was the strongest being on the planet.Ultimate_DB_Fan wrote:Goku's the heart and soul of the Dragon Ball mythos.
