We haven't the slightest why they were replaced, though. From what FUNi has told us, it seems they're really trying to keep as much of the original cast as possible. I don't think this is a situation where FUNi is trying to piss people off.

I kind of like the idea of Gohan's voice being replaced. I mean, it doesn't make sense for him to have the same voice as kid Goku, but then have a different adult voice, as well as Goten having a different child voice. I wonder how it will be with Luffy's voice coming out of Gohan's mouth though... It will take some getting used to, like the new Al in FMA:Brotherhood.

Depending on her performance, I might like Bulma's cast change; I thought that her previous actress was solid after she dropped the "valley girl" accent. Although I thought that the voice just sounded a bit too old for her in Dragon Ball and early Z, but I thought it worked for the Buu saga for the most part.

As for the new narrator... I really hope the new narrator doesn't try too hard to be "HARDCOREE AWESME EPIX!!", because then that could be worse then Dale Kelly. From that trailer linked earlier, I am actually quite nervous about this change.

I don't really care about the change for Puar and Chiaotzu.

Ok...so we have Luffy's voice coming out of Gohan's mouth, some guy who's done Pepsi and Pizza Hut ads being the Narrator, and some red-haired chick doing Bulma?

My God. :P

Actually, Bulma's played by Karoo the duck from One Piece.

Which totally isn't her biggest role, by the way.

This makes me wonder if she'll be voicing Gohan as an older teen when the Boo saga rolls around or if Kyle'll be returning for that role.

There's that and the matter of her sounding waaaaay too bitchy and whiney even for Bulma during a good portion of the series. But that could be chalked up to as a directing issue.

As for people wondering how Colleen would handle as Gohan...

Jesus Christ, it's impossible to find a clip from One Piece where Luffy isn't screaming.

Bulma: Of course! I'm not gonna pull a Frieza and screw it up!

It's true, I seriously hope she tones it down for Gohan. Her enthusiasm is always cranked up to 11. Hopefully that was just the voice direction she was given for Luffy.

Her kid Luffy sounds a lot like Naldony's Gohan, anyway.

I hope she doesn't go with that.

Obviously. Luffy and Gohan are two completely different characters in personality. Luffy resembles more of Goku than Gohan.

We must be watching two different shows, because that sounds NOTHING like Nadolny's Gohan. Not even Season 3 Gohan sounds like that.

Get your hearing checked. Their approach is very similar.

I think (what little I've heard of) her Luffy voice sounds more like Goten than Gohan.

Well I don't see it at all. Their pitch and tone and all of that other stuff sound nothing alike. They're both kinda raspy sounding, (well, really, Stephanie Nadolny after the Cell games recordings in 2000 is more nasally than raspy) but that's it.

I still think FUNi may try to pull a Nadolny impression out of her by modifying her regular Luffy voice.

And her Luffy doesn't sound that much like Nadolny's Gohan but there are definitely some similarities. Mostly I guess it comes from how they both make their voices raspy to sound more masculine.

Listen to Colleen's performances in Kiddy Grade and as Zangya in DBZ Movie 9; I think she has the potential to have a more natural sounding child's voice for Gohan. The ADR director just needs to remember to tell her that Gohan is a soft-spoken polite young lad, especially early on, not as rambunctious as kid Goku.

The recasts should really try and emulate the original perfomances and character personas more than just emulating the previous dub voices. I mean, FUNi already did that in 1999, and a lot of us didn't like it at first.
Nothing matters (in a cosmic sense.) Have a good time.

Whoohoo! Quite glad to hear the recasting of Bulma and Gohan! Could never stand either of those two! Colleen seems a bit better as Gohan, but I would love more than anything if they refrained from doing that stupid perpetual head cold voice for just one prepubescent Gohan! Just once!

I'm excited for the cast changes. After hearing Colleen Clinkenbeard's Luffy, I think she will make a great Gohan! Her voice balances between Ocean's(don't know her name) and Nadolny's Gohan so I'm expecting something nice. I'm not to sold on Monica Rial as Bulma though, I always loved Tiffany Volmer's interpretation. I have confidence in Funimation's decisions but I'm going to miss Volmer and Nadolny.

I'm actually looking forward to this. It's something new, something fresh and if I really don't like the new voices then there's always the Dragonbox and of course the original Voice Actors.

I'm happy with the voice changes, now I only hope that they're only indicative of the Saiyan Arc.

C'Mooooooooon Linda Young Replacement! Then as long as the script and directing is good, this dub will be perfect!

Just out of curiosity(and I hope this doesn't go off topic) but who amongst Funimation's directors would be best with handling Kai, and what are his/her chances of actually getting the job?
