They'll probably give it to Sabat or McFarland. Unfortunately.

Sabat directed the recent video games that were getting the script and a decent amount of the acting right and McFarland is directing the One Piece dub.

Either way, I thin the director will handle the series right. So I'd be fine with either of them.

I can dig any director who isn't Caitlin Glass.

I really like McFarland's One Piece and the recent video games were great(voice actor wise)so, if Sabat and McFarland handle the script then I am totally hyped for this. I can't wait.

It's not necessarily the director so much as the style they go for.

Sabat directed and wrote Raging Blast but I'm not sure how good their dub of that was...

For the most part it was good. There were some recycled clips from BT3 but the new stuff was done right(i.e. Son Goku and the correct pronunciation of Kaioken). The cut scenes were boring but that was the games fault and not the actors(character models were lifeless and just talked back and forth to one another).

After seeing some of Funimation's One Piece for the first time recently, I'd like to have McFarlin over Sabat but looking at both of their recent works, it seems like either of them would do a good job with Kai.

I always liked Saffron Henderson. She was able to balance out the rasp with a very childlike voice.

I don't know... She always sounded too loud and whiny to me... I guess the whiny part suited kid Gohan though...

Eh, I never liked her. She, like the rest of the Ocean Cast, tended to overdo it on her delivery and made everything sound awkward. And what Metalwario said.

Stephanie Nadolny as 4 year old Gohan always sounded really cute.

Saffron Henderson was absolutely a better Gohan than Naldony's, which was a hallow impression of hers.

Not that either were that good, though. But Naldony's was awful and forced, and Gohan's laugh sounded unnatural.

You're right: It was a bad impression: in the beginning. But the Cell saga was when she started making her role as Gohan into her own and she sounds nothing like Saffron Henderson in the Movies or the redubs.

Thank you for that. I don't know why I didn't just look it up. I guess the late night is making me lazy.

At times, I felt that Henderson and Nadolny's portrayal of Gohan were interchangeable, when they swapped actors I seriously thought they kept Henderson for Gohan's role. Looking back on it now however, I think Henderson always made for the cuter younger Gohan while Nadolny handled cell saga Gohan way better. I think Clinkenbeard will find the perfect balance between both actresses, so I'm really looking forward to her performance.

It's been a while since I've seen dub Cell stuff, but, if I recall right, her older Gohan was almost unbearable. Eh, from a certain perspective it was okay, but she turned the rasp up to 11. I was really surprised the poor kid managed to breathe with that much asthma/sinus infection/head cold/pneumonia. That seemed pretty much all there was to the voice, and it just got grating to me.

Made it her own? She still sounded like a bad Saffron Henderson impression in the Cell Games to me. And, among other elements, ruined the moment of Gohan's Super Saiyan 2 transformation for me.

I still have VHS tapes I recorded those Cell Games episodes on from their initial run on Toonami. Even back then I was unimpressed.

You know what, I'm just gonna agree to disagree because either we're hearing different things or we just don't see certain things. Whatever.

The video games are more fresh in my mind than the cell saga itself but her interpretation in the games have always been good(to me anyway). I bet if I went back to the cell saga I'd be turned off by the raspy voice. Back then I didn't mind though.

This is the keyword, for me, when it comes to many of the dub voices.

I've spent so much time talking about the voices that I don't like, so I'll talk about the ones that I do. In my opinion, it's not that hard to make a watchable dub. Of course, I'll always be a bigger fan of the original Japanese version, but that's not preventing me from enjoying a tolerable English version. The voices don't have to be AMAZING but they do have to be tolerable. It's really that simple: don't annoy me with raspy, redneck, retarded, wrestler, overly-shrill, or gruff voices, FUNimation! I like Artificial Human 17's and 18's voices. They both sound normal, memorable, and thoroughly enjoyable. I also like Dr. Gero's voice. Again, he sounds like a normal man his age and doesn't disturb me. Man, this is getting hard already... Well, here are the rest that I can think of from the top of my head: Kaioshin, Mister Satan...okay, I'm going to stop there. I'm sure there are a couple more that I enjoy, but they're just not coming to mind at the moment. I honestly tried.

The magical pixies that tell me things say that Sabat is directing and Sean has been flying back often to record Goku.

Y'know, I'm gonna have to agree to disagree with you, too, because it's difficult for me to find a voice that is over the top. There's uh, current-day Vegeta and, um, random pedestrians and maybe a couple of Sabat voiced minor villains, but that's really it. And this is coming from someone who's watched every episode with the dub. Twice. And that's only counting the times I took all 9 of the Season sets and Marathon'd them. I've watched the dub so substantially that I'm pretty sure of what I'm saying.
