As the video title suggests, it's a fan edit.

I think he took the voice clip from the German dub of this scene and lowered the pitch and removed the "t-t" at the end.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v55t5jnhz5s

Wasn't this the infamous "OH SHIT" clip? I thought people made a big deal out of it because no other dub did this.

EDIT: I took the video, to see if it could be done that way. What I got was pretty close, but he must've either done something more complicated to it, or I'm completely wrong about this. The timing is different on the "oh" or the "shit", so if this is how it was done, then he must've spent a lot of time on this edit. I'm having trouble hiding the accent, too.

Whatever it is, it's very well done.

Isn't that what's also used in the famous "FINAL FALCON PUNCH" video?

It looks like it.
Here's the link for the german final flash, this is the one that says "Oh Shit!" and that's where the edit was available.

Glad we got that sorted.

Believe me, the German dub has MANY unnecessary swearings.

And for the record, I would say that "shit" - the actual English word - in German context isn't as hard as other swearings in German language. In comparison to the actual German word for shit ("Scheisse"), it's rather soft. You hear "shit" as often as other soft swearings. Don't ask me why an English word isn't as hard as the actual German word in the language in this case.

Ironically, if a German says "fuck" (the English word) it's harder swearing than if an American says it.

Isn't it really about how people interpret the swear words? If DB Kai is meant to be aimed at a young audience--basically, if it's pre-watershed, then the swear words should be mild, while preserving the general nature of DragonBall. For example, the word "crap" is generally viewed as a "mild" swear word at the most--by some, not even a swear word. It's about what the majority of people think nowadays. The word "fuck" will not be acceptable in Kai because, frankly, it's one of the most common curses used nowadays and it is percieved by the majority to be an offensive swear word.

Think about what kind of curses PG-13 movies have nowadays and try to cast that across into what you think would be appropiate in a pre-watershed showing of DragonBall Kai, while not losing the nature of DB Kai. It's hard to decide exactly curses should be included in DB Kai, so for now, I guess we should sit back and see what FUNimation do. At the most, the mildest of curses like "hell", "damn", and "darn it" should be safe to be included in Kai.

At the end of the day, it is about how you look at certain swear words. But even so, FUNimation won't be able to prevent mothers complaining about the slightest mention of "hell". FUNimation should just play it safe for now.

So in a back-and-forth I've been having with Nadolny, she has this to say so far regarding her lack of participation in Kai.

I knew that it wasn't by her own choice. Color me pissed.

Did she elaborate?
"Out of my control" and "I wish there were something I could do!" could just mean that she can't be available to record when they need her. If she said something you aren't telling us, then that's one thing, but there's a good chance she just really can't do it.

If they DID just replace her for the sake of replacing her... then way to go FUNi! Also, God DAMN you FUNi! Why replace 4-year old chain-smoker Gohan, but not Grandma Freeza?!

I agree, it was probably because of other things she was doing.

If they were going to replace her just to replace her, they would have done so for the past few video games.

Aside from a few unrelated passages, t'aint nothin' I'm holding back regarding what she said. But I didn't press her for specifics at the time, because I didn't wanna make it seem like I was jumping down her throat with ZOMG YOR NOT GOHAN WAI WAI on the offchance that there's any hurt feelings involved.

She volunteered the information, so I sent another message to open up a conversation about it. I imagine that details will be forthcoming, and when they are then they'll come here. ^_^

I would like to know if she'll still be voicing Kid Goku in future Dragon Ball-related media.

I hope not.

I thought the voice of Dende did a better job as young Goku than Naldony. If they can get Clinkenbeard to do it, though, more power to her.

But he's also a fighter, through and through [...] he fight until he has, in no uncertain terms, beaten his enemy on terms they can both acknowledge. He doesn't want to kill anyone, or even prove that he can win... he just wants to know he can. He's an ineffably charming bastard who's manly leanings were really incendental, and yes, the fact that he was voiced by a squeaky woman made the combination perhaps all the more charming.

I'm all for Stephaine not playing Gohan, I thought she did an okay job but there are better actors for the role.

But I loooooved her as Kid Goku, I hope she voices him in Origins 2.

Wait, who are we talking about? I know there was somebody playing Dende in FUNi's dub before Laura Bailey showed up, but that person was Goku at some point?

Have you actually heard the voice of someone who smokes a lot, or are you simply repeating the stock phrase of the other Japanese fans?

I was fortunate enough to hear from Stephanie again this morning. Omitting non-related items and more personal exchange, here's what she had to say about her situation:
Stephanie Nadolny wrote:That was sooo sweet - thanks sooo much - [talking with you] means so much to me esp having gotten the bad news... it's been very hard to accept and I will miss it sooo much!
This doesn't look like a scheduling conflict, but for the sake of certaintly I've mentioned the possibility so that she can clarify. I've also asked if she knows anything about being retained for other media.

When I hear something else, I'll post it here.

Why would they decide to replace one awful voice and not the other 20? "I'll pop one of these giant zits on my face but I'm not sure about the others." Either go for the gusto or don't do anything at all Funi. Stop half assing your redubs.

In-house availability seems most likely. It's getting clearer and clearer the recast are for convenience's sake, and not for any sort of quality. Of course, the replacements are actually pretty good actors, so there's that.
