Dragonball Beginings Get Screwed In America...
You ever realized that every Dragonball series that was dubbed here got really screwed in the begining of the series...
Dragonball - First 13 episode were cut, was later fixed by FUNimation. Still not legally able to put them on DVD.
DragonballZ - First 2 seasons were cut, currently being fixed by FUNimation
Dragonball GT- First few episodes were held back for lack of action. Later were released under the name "Lost Episodes"
To bad no series just went straight through from start to finish with no problems...

*nods* It's something we've seemingly come to accept. Quite frankly, I find it more funny than anything else. One of those laugh-with-friends, "Oh, that silly FUNimation!" moments. At least they've got the sense to actually fix the releases with proper versions ^_~.

The entire DB release was full of confusions, rereleases, etc that must have confused the hell outta dubbies. From start to finish, it went like:
1.First DB movie comes out with original music, all names changed, screwed up version of Magafuchi.
2. First 13 eps come out with original names and music NOTHING like in the DB movie dub, causing kids to go, "Hey! Wasn't his name Zero/Wiskers/Lena, etc?"
3. They decide "Screw Dragonball. Let's skip the remaining 140 or so episodes and move to DBZ!!"
4. DBZ airs, causing dubbies to go "What ever happened to kid goku and his little friends?" and have to move on with all the mysteries of Dragonball unsolved.
5. Several references and flashbacks to Dragonball are made in DBZ, causing kids to go, "Waitaminute! Dragonball ended and I don't remember that ever happening!", some dubbies not even considering that episodes were cut.
6. Viz releases Dragonball manga with original names and uncut content, causing kids to go, "Wait! I never remember seeing blood in this show, and I'm positive Piccolo didn't call Raditz an ass either! And why are they calling Krillin Kuririn?"
7. Goku's VA changes.
8. I'm not exactly sure when this happened, but the movies are all released uncut, and edited on TV with original music, and kids go, "Hey! Why did the music change? And Why is there blood now?! OMG! THEY SAID HELL!"
9. Funi takes over and all the VAs all change along with the music, and kids go "This is the third soundtrack I've heard for this show!! WHAT'S GOING ON!!?? And why does everyone sound different. WHAT'S GOING ON!!??"
10. Several flashbacks in DBZ show unedited shots of previously edited scenes, and kids go "Why is there suddenly blood in this show?"
11. Funimation causes many plot changes, some of their own plot changes canceling each other out at some times.
12. All of a sudden, DRAGONBALL IS BACK!! And they reair all the episodes, with the original music, new voices, and original names, and a new version of Magafuchi is now dubbed for uncut dvds.
13. Dragonball Manga is now being censored by SJ, and fans, now being more aware of the censorship in the series, complain and make Viz decide to release Dragonball, mostly uncut, minus Mr. Popo's lips. Dragonball Z however is still censored.
14. 3 swears are accidentally uttered in movie 7.
15. DBGT airs with 15 skipped episodes.
16. Many flashbacks in DBGT of scenes with blood, now for some odd reason, have the blood censored, causing kids to go, "Now they want to remove blood?"
17. DBGT Lost Episodes are released.
18. Now, DBZ season 1 and 2 are being rereleased uncut, most likely sporting new crappy Falcouner music.
19. Movies 1-3 are being re-released, probably turning out worse than the original dub.
20. The Remanining DBZ movies will be released along with the Saga of Goku uncut.
There you have it. The screwed up, un-chronological, and confusing release order of the Dragonball series in America.

Re: ....
Because of licencing in America by Kidmark is why they are unable to currently release this in America. But this licencing dosen't exist in Australia, therefore allowing us to have it uncut.Blastero wrote:Then how come Australia has a 2-disc uncut saga set of this already?Dragonball - First 13 episode were cut, was later fixed by FUNimation. Why does DBGT have non-squirting blood censorship? I thought Funimation had changed too.Blastero wrote:16. Many flashbacks in DBGT of scenes with blood, now for some odd reason, have the blood censored, causing kids to go, "Now they want to remove blood?"

I don't watch GT, but perhaps CN's policy changed. It can happen at times. For example, Gundam Wing and Tenchi got away with a lot of stuff on Toonami that was censored in Outlaw Star.Mike D wrote:Why does DBGT have non-squirting blood censorship? Funny. Explaining a history to people on a forum who were more or less there for the ride. Heh, atleast you did a good job.Blastero wrote:The entire DB release was full of confusions, rereleases, etc that must have confused the hell outta dubbies. I am not going to pretend I know a lot about Japanese, but if I am not mistaken the word your looking for is "Makafushigi".Blaster wrote:Magafuchi

uh Harmony Gold WAS in the 80s
as a Dubbie inductee myself I went through all of that from the FUNi dub of DB 1-13 onwards, and yeah it was confusing as hell when they just jumped to DBZ (and the DBZ "fans" at the time did their best to make it worse with very off fan speculations passed on as fact).

YYH got screwed because of corporate greed though.Blastero wrote:YYH suffered even worse than that. It had DBZ season 1 and 2 type hit-to-the face cuts that cut out right as the person gets hit,

Only movie three was inserted into the regular season airing during syndication. The first of three parts aired right after dub episode #35 ("Immortality Denied"), and the last two parts aired the next week (remember that for season two, DBZ had an hour-long time-slot!). And yeah, it was definitely a "WTF?!" moment while watching, initially.tarsonis wrote:Also, back in 1999, some of the movies were divided up into half-hour segments, and shown during (or right after) the season 2 run. That may have been confusing to some.
And it was actually 1997; part one played 15 November 1997, while parts two and three played the following week, 22 November 1997.
