It really goes to show just how poor the battle system is. And while you're over there, you may as well read the review for the game:

As noted above, the folks at WebFoot seem to have a damn fine grasp on the property. They definitely love what they are doing, and it totally reflects in the games, too. While I agree that most of these new American games have been total crap (Taiksetsu and Sagas; haven't played CCG), not all of them have been bad, and some of them have been some of the most fun gaming I've had in recent years (LoG2 & Buu's Fury).lost in thought wrote:They suck because giving people the rights to create media on a property they've never seen, never heard of, and only have still images, and voice clips to work with will virtually molest it, and put a product out not much different than Sagas.

Though I have some cards, I never got to playing the card game. Not enough time/no real interest/no one who would want to play. And especially since card games get into detail with power and techniques and stuff...
Now, I haven't played Sagas enough to make a full decision; I just played it for a couple minutes when my cousins came over today. From what I've played, the game mechanics are pretty generic, the camera angles get annoying, and the linear-ness of it all gets quite repetitive. And I couldn't get past the first level (oh the noobie-ness). But hey, I've barely played it and it is after all a DBZ game where you can go around in 3D and beat bad guys up.

Most likely it's to add to the gimmick of getting people to buy the card game. After you buy a starter deck and know what to do, you'd return to the video game.

I didnt like the LOG series at all. Too boring.
Rented Sagas today. It was ok. It wasnt good it wasnt bad, just ok. It couldve been a lot better. I just dont see how you guys can like LOG and not Sagas. Sagas was basically a next-gen version of LOG. Mission, random thugs, boss battle. Just the same.

Not true, The LOG series isn't linear like Sagas. It also has more replay value & a variety of things to do.Sun_Wukong wrote:I didnt like the LOG series at all. Too boring.

I'm going to take a slight (ok really big liberty) with the fact that you didn't put a II after Legacy of Goku.VegettoEX wrote:LoG controls actually do something when I press the buttonSun_Wukong wrote:I didnt like the LOG series at all. Too boring.

Sagas was basically a next-gen version of LOG. Mission, random thugs, boss battle. Just the same.. And there's... ya' know... collision detection.
4 directions isn't exactly my idea of "fine control," but even after they bumped it up to 8, I can't say I was a big fan of the double tap dash. Not necessarily the first time anything like that was implemented, but they could have opted for a button instead perhaps.
I really enjoyed Legacy of Goku II, but I don't think it deserves the praise it's garnering. It's mostly just a "time sink" RPG where you grind into helpless animals for really long periods of time. GREAT emulation of the Faulconer music however, and the Mandi Paugh graphics aren't a completely lost cause. Plus I find a guilty pleasure in the Mode 7 overworld map that reminds me of Flammie from Secret of Mana.
Otherwise though, I really would have to award it as a "decent" attempt. We've seen American developers do great things, and while those things may not have revolved around the Dragonball Z franchise, I don't think it would hurt to apply some of that innovation and good game design to an American title.
I haven't played Sagas, so I can't possibly defend it. And somewhat like Sun_Wukong, I wonder how you can hate it if you like Legacy of Goku so much...unless it really is THAT bad.
And from the movies I've seen, I guess it wouldn't be that surprising.
EDIT: After watching the "new" boss videos at IGN...I'm even in more shock as to why you guys praise Legacy of Goku so much. The Nappa fight looked just like a Legacy of Goku 2 boss fight, a boss slightly recoiling while you moved foward and continued to pummel them slowly. There's hardly an attempt to counter attack or anything, which was one thing that bothered me about Legacy of Goku. Seems it's still just as present.

Mugenmidget: Are you counting Buu's Fury. I played that first and then played LoG II and was, well...shocked. B.F is a big advance on LoG II and is great to look at too. It is really good to see the story unfold as an rpg and to see how the creators managed to weave the movies into the storyline so well.
-END RANT.
To me the boss fights were "just beat them and get back to the good stuff already" so that never really bothered me. Also, how can a GBA game be compared to a PS2 game? It is a completely different ball game. The Nappa fight looked just like a Legacy of Goku 2 boss fight, a boss slightly recoiling while you moved foward and continued to pummel them slowly.
