Where were the first batch of DragonBall and DragonBall GT episodes cut?
Cause I live in Canada, and the first time they showed those series', they showed them from start to finish.
Actually, I remember when they first started DragonBall in the early 90's, and they ONLY showed like the first 13 episodes.

Also, back in 1999, some of the movies were divided up into half-hour segments, and shown during (or right after) the season 2 run. That may have been confusing to some.

Only movie three was inserted into the regular season airing during syndication. The first of three parts aired right after dub episode #35 ("Immortality Denied"), and the last two parts aired the next week (remember that for season two, DBZ had an hour-long time-slot!). And yeah, it was definitely a "WTF?!" moment while watching, initially.

And it was actually 1997; part one played 15 November 1997, while parts two and three played the following week, 22 November 1997.

Hmm, I guess originally it was 97. I didn't start seeing dbz until 99 though, so I had no idea if it occurred earlier.

However, I do remember them doing this to all of the first three movies, not just 3. I don't know when exactly though. I think movie 1 was divided into two halves (because it was shorter), and movies 2 and 3 got three parts each.

I'm talking about the Toonami edited version, and as far as censorship goes, around the end of the Dark Tournament and on, you couldn't show any blood and by the Yusuke vs. Toguro battle, all hits to the face were cut. Before that, YYH had the same standards season 3+ of DBZ had.

Which is why I mentioned the getting screwed because of corporate greed. When the show was on Adult Swim, the only edits they had were Kazemaru's manji tattoo (which Funimation explained to CN but they still said no), and one language edit that was uncut dub only (outside South Park and NYPD Blue, you can't say the word "asshole" on TV). Ratings were good, but the execs at CN decided to move it from AS to Toonami because there's a higher range of people who watch it compared to AS (older teens and adults for AS, compared to kids, teens and adults watching Toonami). Wider audience group means higher ratings and higher ratings means more money for them. Hence the corporate greed tag.

I'm not sure if it's the same thing, but the article in SJ where it mentions what a manji is, doesn't say anything about the anime. But yeah its there, at least on the dvd. I haven't seen those eps, but I saw the dvd that comes right before it and in the preview it was there. Have to admit that Funimation did a good job of covering it up though. There were no wavy animation that usually occurs when something is painted over so if you didn't see the original, you would not have been able to tell it was there.

There were times on Outlaw Star where they altered guns to look like some type of deadly laser blasters instead of your basic everyday pistol. Kind of stupid since a unless it's a concussive blast with stun and kill settings, lasers are more powerful than bullets. In fact on "Zatch Bell", they altered a shotgun a bank robber was using to look like a high tech sci-fi looking weapon. Also stupid because it looked like something I'd be more scared of being shot with rather than a shotgun.

Ahh the Hot Springs Planet Tenrei ep. It was hilarious and ever since seeing that ep, my cousins think I'm a pervert who watches hentai. Anyway, even if they put digital bikinis on everyone, there was still the plotline which would be altered.

The Canadian Blue Water run of DBGT never had the first 16 episodes cut because it was dubbed by a different studio than the FUNi ones; as was the original DB.

The first and third movies were also dubbed and edited together to form a single, longer film which aired on serveral small stations around the country. The pilot episodes were apparently test-marketed on various independent networks. The response was so lackluster, however, that nothing more ever came of it, and Harmony Gold seems to have forgotten it ever happened. What was it like? Most of the names were changed: Goku was named Zero, Bulma was Lena, Oolong was Mao-Mao, Yamcha was Zedaki, etc. An opening theme that followed the original tune was produced.... Despite heavy editing, it was still an amusing, action-packed show."
