"Freeza" FUNimation DVDs Re-release

Post by mbright220 » Tue Mar 29, 2005 8:19 pm

Hello all,

I recently bought the 10 DVD's that compose the Frieza Saga and have some interesting news.

It seems as though 7 of the ten discs (all but Transformation, Revealed and Death of a Prince) now allow for continuous playthrough with Japanese subtitles and includes opening and closing credits before and after each episode as well as the "previously on" and Japanese title card.

Unfortunately there is no eyecatches inserted, but based on what I had heard before hand, this is a definite improvement from the other releases I had heard about.

Anyway, I just thought I would share this information for all, just in case anyone out there was curious.

Thanks,
Scott

Thanks for trying to be helpfull, but thats old news. The Freeza saga DVD's where one of the first FUNimation released on that format and didn't know really how to set them up on the DVD to make fans happy.

...or is to my understanding...

Uh, it's not "old news" that there are versions with surrounding theme songs and can be playes beginning to end. In fact, that's new great news.

Really?, can you please explain in more detail cause this is getting me kind of confused seeing as how I don't buy enough DBZ DVD's to know this.

The original release of the Freeza DVDs were set up in a way that:

- There was only one set of theme songs; an opening before the first episode, and an ending after the last episode

- You couldn't play the disc straight-through. When an episode would end, it would return to the episode-select menu of the disc

- There were no eye-catches

Now it sounds like there's been a possible re-release (yet again unannounced... thanks for nothing!) with all but the eye-catches fixed.

Yep, ironicly I have all 10 Freeza dvds with these qualities, shame for the lack of eye catches. However, I would rather have no eye catches, than the two used on the first two VHS's of the Saiyan Saga box-set (with the background changed the yellow/red blinking light, and rather than some nice music we hear a guitar riff, and a deep voice say "Dragon" "Ball" "...Zee", that was really irritating.)

Hmmph, makes me wonder if the Ginyu discs were ever fixed as those were the discs that had the most issues (i.e. missing next episode recaps and dub names used in the sub-title track).

That is interesting, I know at around Death of a Prince they stopped doing the prompt for a new episode on my sets, so I knew some changes were made but I didnt know it was to all. I just thought FUNi got the message and did the rest without it, due to how my collection worked it out (And I bought the last 3 discs in the set within the week they were relased so...)

Yea it's supposed to be Frieza....

EDIT: What the hell. I put in Frieza not Freeza.

EDIT 2:Holy Shit! It happened again. I don't believe this. Where is the i?

Uhm Frieza..

EDIT 3: ARRRGH!! Ex. Why is this happening... Friezer. SO Friezer works and not Frieza. Why is this automatically changing?

Frieza is a dub spelling that EX (and a lot of people here) find quite annoying so the board censor turn it to Frieza automatically. The same goes for the likes of Hercule becoming Hercule.

<Kaboom> I'm just glad that he now sounds more like Invader Zim than Rita Repulsa
<Xyex> Original Freeza never sounded like a chick to me.
<Kaboom> Neither does Rita
<Xyex> Good point.

Hercule. Well you aren't lying. That is clever man, really. I was just so used to spelling his name with an "i".

Wow, it really changes it automatically? O_O
Frieza. Hercule.
What other names change automatically to their other spellings?

Gokou is one. There has got to be others.

Krillin doesn't get changed, by the way.

Yeah, some alternate spellings, like Freeza and Hurcule.

By the way, EX, you should add "Tienshinhan" to the list of names to censor.
