That is awesome. I never expected to see a DB game in that style, and here it was the first one ever. XD

But I can't, that's how life is. Time is a bitch. The party is over. Kageyama, Kikuchi, and Maeda are off the sauce now; Yanami almost OD'd; Yamamoto got arrested; Toriyama's not going to light trash cans on fire and hang from the chandelier anymore. We can't get the band back together, and even if we could, everyone's either old, in poor health, or calmed way the fuck down. Best we're going to get, and are getting, is a party that's almost entirely devoid of the magic that made the original one so awesome that we even want more.

Re: Worst Dragon Ball game
Alright, I looked though the thread, and I thought I already made a post. I didn't, so here it is.
I guess this is going to be my top 4 worst games, ranking from the game I can tolerate playing to the one that makes me want to destroy the cartage/disc in frustration.
Number 4: Sagas
The concept was genius: An RPG-type game for the PS2. A game where you could roam around the Dragon World, battling random opponents. The execution was pretty bad, with clumsy controls, crappy graphics, and glitches everywhere. Sure, it wasn't the best DBZ game out there, but I had fun with it when I first played it. The Gohan vs Cell battle was hard as FUCK when you could only land a punch on Cell as a Super Saiyan 2. Maybe this is so high on the list is because I an a sucker for games where you could walk around a map and fuck around with stuff. Makes me wanna continue further in the game just to do that.
Number 3 GT: Transformation
The first GT game for the GBA was supposed to the predecessor to the Legacy of Goku games. But it turned it on it's ear, making it a side-scroller instead of the previous 3, which were straight-forward RPG games. I didn't finish it, as most fans, because of how much it sucked. This game was just a re-hash of a once-great game series. Wasn't nearly as good, but bearable at most.
Number 2: Legacy of Goku I
The first DBZ game for the GBA led one of the greatest Dragonball game series of all time. And the beginning was the worst of the 3. I haven't played much, but from what I've played of it, and what I've heard, it's both hard and annoying. Especially when you go to kill even the weak opponents in more then 6 hits. *facepalm* Why this series went from astronomically bad to friggin' epic is beyond me.
Number 1: Taiketsu
My God. Just, wow. When you couldn't think that DBZ games could get any worse then Legacy of Goku I, Taiketsu rears its ugly head. Being the first fighting game for the GBA, it was anticipated, I guess. What we got was a game where the controls were horrid, you couldn't pull off a decent attack to save your life, the fighting sucked, the 3D models were God-awful, and just an all-around awful game. I still have it because it is part of my collection. The only thing I liked from this game: The Gallery and Music archive. That's saying a lot for a game that's based on beating the crap out of each other.

Re: Worst Dragon Ball game
When I first played Legends, I thought ( and in some way, still do ) the gameplay was the closest a game had got to recreating the combat in the Anime. Participating in battles with up to six characters on screen at one time, beating the DBZ out of one another in furious combat, shifting around the enemy and slamming your enemy into the ground, etc, was pretty exciting back then. Although, the controls do take some getting used to.Travis Touchdown wrote:For me it's Dragon Ball Z Legends.
That's probably just because I can't figure it out. When I switch it on, the game pretty much plays itself. I can switch out characters, but that's about it. No other button seems to do anything.
Despite how bad Sagas, Final Bout, & Ultimate Battle 22 are, I love them. I acknowledge that they're bad, but I still have a blast playing them.
I did also enjoy UB 22, and Final Bout. I recently bought the superior Sega Saturn version of UB22, Shin Butouden, and its easily one of the best DBZ games I've ever played.
Legendary Super Warriors is a great DBZ game, and is also one of my favorites, and I've played most of them. Even the obscure famicom games. I still play it. I have yet to unlock SSJ3 Goku.SSJmole wrote:I loved legacy of Goku 1 too.

Having actually dabbled in playing the actual TCG, I actually thought it was a fun game. The main problem was that it expected that you already knew how to play. Otherwise, it was a rather faithful attempt at recreating the TCG on the GBA, same was as the YGO games and Pokemon TCG on the Game Boy Color did.Hellspawn28 wrote:The TCG game was awful, they never tell how the games works and most TCG video games like the Yu-Gi-Oh ones have a mode telling you on how to play.

I'm pretty sure Taiketsu is universally hated. I'd say Sagas, but at least that has the pretty opening.

Re: Worst Dragon Ball game
Out of what I've played... let'se see..
Ultimate Battle 22 is too nostalgic for me to say it's the worst. It introduced me to so many characters when I first played it...
I can never get past the first 5 minutes of those Legend of Goku games for snes. I don't think much of their gameplay but the presentation is pretty damn cool.
Saiyajin Densetsu for snes, the rpg one with the cards. This game grinds on me. Same battle music for each battle, ugly overworld graphics, silly uneven gameplay (the Raditz clone that's accessible before you're even levelled up enough to stand a chance against him.) And everything just looks the same, how are you meant to know where to go..?? I tried following what I could of this game via a walkthrough until the rom decided it had run out of translation for me.

Re: Worst Dragon Ball game
I definately would have to say "Ultimate Battle 22". I remember when I bought that game I was with a buddy of mine who hated DBZ and thought it was stupid. Well we took the game back to his house and started playing it and he was like, "So this is DBZ, huh?" I felt so ashamed, and let's just say that the game didn't help change his opinion any either.
I would also give "Final Bout" a close second though.

Re: Worst Dragon Ball game
I'd say Transformations too. Final Bout was bad, but if you tried you could milk some fun out of it, especially with the build-up mode.
Sagas really disappointed me, I thought it sounded amazing until I actually had a go at an import, and found it lame. In hindsight, a Musou-style DB game wouldn't really work in my opinion.

Why all the hate for Transformations? It's a semi-competent beat-'em-up.

Re: Worst Dragon Ball game
Interestingly enough, I kinda like all these hated games.
I've played them from start to finish and I've hated certain things about them, but overall I've enjoyed them.
I remember that I couldn't stop playing Taiketsu until I opened every unlockable.
And I liked Legacy of Goku because it had cutscenes.
Which at the time seemed AMAZING for me on GBA.
Up to this day I still love replaying my final fight with Freeza.
I couldn't finish Sagas though, as I got extremely bored.
But I do plan on finishing it some day. It is quite horrible, I have to admit it.
My least favourite would have to be Budokai 2 though. When I loaded the disc in my PS2 I was expecting Budokai 1 gameplay with the new kick-ass graphics. Instead, I got a freaking board game... and even after spending a considerable amount of time on it, I just couldn't finish it. First, it got extremely hard at one point and second, it just didn't leave up to my expectations. Sad really.

Re: Worst Dragon Ball game
Come to think of it, I think I like sagas more with Pendulum mode unlocked than actually playing through it for real.
Except for Future Trunks-and-Gohan stages. Forget messed up rain graphics; I just like when Trunks and Gohan can beat the crap out of robots, simultaineously grab them and throw them into buildings. Then roundhouse like five of them at once.
Then again, I liked Sonic3DBlast more as a virtual playground than an actual game.
