Fanmanga - DB Multiverse

Re: Fanmanga - DB Multiverse
I can't help but think that the last panel with Trunks in it was copied from a scene in Movie 9. I still don't have my main computer, so no screencap, but it was the scene at the beginning where Krillin thinks he actually has a chance in the tournament, only to find Trunks looking down from a cliff.
Yamcha: Do you remember the spell to release him - do you know all the words?
Bulma: Of course! I'm not gonna pull a Frieza and screw it up!
Master Roshi: Bulma, I think Frieza failed because he wore too many clothes!

Agreed, I know the exact scene you're talking about.jjgp1112 wrote:I can't help but think that the last panel with Trunks in it was copied from a scene in Movie 9. So far this is pretty disappointing. My interest in DBM has basically dwindled to nothing. It was an interesting idea, but much like a number of on-going projects it seems like no real outline was made and now they're just making it up as they go along. Too bad.

Well I doubt they are pulling a "Dr. Jones looking for the Ark" method, making it up as they go. There is a rough plan but obviously Salagir and c.o. have changed their minds a lot. These "specials" are also pretty much filler so that Gogeta Jr can catch up on artwork and to try to show other artist's work.

No, I didn't. I said that you can't bash someone elses work without being able to do much better. I never said you could provide constructive criticism. Constructive criticism is what any good (as in, actually cares to improve) artist/write/whatever wants. Just attacking something, complaining about how it's 'awful' or 'sucks' or whatever, without providing any kind of thoughts for improvement, is simply disrespectful, rude, and asshole-y. It's a waste of the poster's time, a waste of the artists time, and a waste of time for everyone forced to read it because it conveys absolutely nothing of value.Blue wrote:I'm fully aware of the point and I agree but it's the phrasing that's stupid. Xeyx didn't flat out say that. He claimed you need to be able to do better to be able to criticize peoples work which is just a point Devientarts use to stop any and all criticism on their work.Dayspring wrote:Xyex's point is that you're not criticising, you're attacking. If it's bad, why was it bad? What would you have done or at least prefer to have seen done differently? That's criticism.Blue wrote:Yeah...no you didn't you said in order to criticize work you need to make something 10x better. Which isn't true even if you can't produce something 10x better you can still criticize someones work because you notice a low quality product.

Yeah, because we all know Toriyama had everything outlined years in advance.MajinVejitaXV wrote:Agreed, I know the exact scene you're talking about.jjgp1112 wrote:I can't help but think that the last panel with Trunks in it was copied from a scene in Movie 9. They obviously had an outline of events going into this. But it was started two years ago, things change, hence SSJ2 Vegetto, hence the edits to the first 10 pages and their reposting.
And these special chapters are not made by Salagir and Gogeta Jr. and I'm not even entirely sure if Salagir provides the scripts for them or if the artist just comes up with that themselves, designed to fit within some simple framework given to them by Salagir.

Re: Fanmanga - DB Multiverse
No offense, but are you a member of the creative team on this project? It seems every time someone says anything negative, you take it personally and jump in with a comment like this. And yes, I made my comment knowing full well that someone would undoubtedly jump in with the "Well, Toriyama improvised most of the series" card. Difference is, Toriyama knew how to improvise obviously, whereas the DBM team doesn't seem as gifted in that department. Is it horrible? No, but I'd put it more akin to Toei's filler improvisation than Toriyama's manga improvisation.Xyex wrote:Yeah, because we all know Toriyama had everything outlined years in advance.![]()

I don't think he's saying not to criticize it if you can't do better. I think he means just don't flat out bash someone's work if you yourself can't do a better job...and I agree. I'm not saying that's you were doing, I'm just saying I understand his point.Blue wrote: I'm fully aware of the point and I agree but it's the phrasing that's stupid. Xeyx didn't flat out say that. I was stating that because it wasn't made clear at all in the art.Xyex wrote:....because he turned around?

Better than the previous page, but still pretty bad. I mean, look at #16's face.
Re: Fanmanga - DB Multiverse
Yeah, agreed. Even in "How to draw manga", written and drawn by Akira Toriyama and his assistant, they state how important it is to adjust the drawings in the panels to avoid confusion about the sides.Metalwario64 wrote:I was stating that because it wasn't made clear at all in the art.Xyex wrote:....because he turned around?
That panel was not that well executed, and you shouldn't have to concentrate to find out what's going on either.
Maybe it's obvious for you Xyex, but you are they only one that got it, and that's evidence enough that it wasn't a success drawing that panel in that way.
We all are manga readers here, and myself, I have read/am reading around 20 titles, and never ever have I seen such an awkward panel being used.
If Gothax didn't rush it, he would have noticed the error. He says so even himself that it was rushed in the comments section on DB:M.
At least I know that if I get a job like that, I try to stay artistically on the same level as the main comic, or even higher. But I guess that it's hard to do since Gogeta Jr. has very good drawings and is talented in Toriyama's style.
Re: Fanmanga - DB Multiverse
What is this slop?
Judging by panel 2 compared to the others, it seems obvious that he can't draw on his own very well at all. Every shot of Trunks in this and the previous comic are practically straight-up traced.
I don't know if he's just rushing or what. Maybe he does do a little better outside of a comic format. But with this, as it is... I'd rather we go back to Broly-wanking, because at least Gogeta Jr keeps his artwork consistently good.
... Yes, I can do better. You all already know I can. >_>

Re: Fanmanga - DB Multiverse
I'm not getting bent out of shape, I just think it's a bit of a ridiculous comment to make on a fan manga based on Dragonball considering Toriyama made up everything as he went along. And I really can't see where you think this was poorly improvised. The only place I can tell any improvisation occurred was with SSJ2 Vegetto and the re-done opening.MajinVejitaXV wrote:No offense, but are you a member of the creative team on this project? I understand you guys don't like Broly, but c'mon, its a god damn fan manga about ALTERNATE UNIVERSES. In one of those universes Kuririn beat Frieza, thats way worse than this....
Proud to be a S<3NE.
Re: Fanmanga - DB Multiverse
Actually, that's pretty awesome because it takes a usually under-powered, often-pushed-to-the-background character like Kuririn and turned him into something really potent and powerful.verto wrote:These were entertaining at first, now theres just WAAAAY too many...

Broly is the opposite. We've been getting 'BROLY BROLY BROLY HE GUYS LOOK AT BROLY HE'S AWESOME BROLY BROLY BROLY BROLY' thrown at us far too much and too often from a wide range of sources, both official and non. A lot of folks are already outright sick of the character in general; and yet this comic, which is super-cool and creative in so many other ways, decides to waste its own potential by god-modding him and continuing the overexposure.
I certainly don't mean any offense or personal insult to DBM's creative team. But it just seems like Broly-wanking is a big waste of their time and talent.
