Which leads me to wonder...just how many games might this have been? I'm not sure if any of the games before 1997's Dragon Ball: Final Bout used voice work, but I'm interested in seeing just how many games the gang had to come in to record for over the years.Horikawa Ryô, Kanzentai Cast Guide wrote:In addition to anime, he's done voice acting for video games including the voice of Vegeta in all DragonBall games.

Heya guys, while checking over the Horikawa Ryô biography at Kanzentai's cast page I came across this ordinary line:

Re: Dragon Ball games that used voice actors?
Dragon Ball Z: Ultimate Battle 22 (1995) might've been the earliest. It's the oldest DB game I own, so I'm not 100% sure. So all home console games since then (at least) were all vocallized. With one exception: Dragon Ball Z: Super Goku Den — Kakusei-Hen (a SFC game). As for handheld systems, I know Dragon Ball: Advanced Adventure and Dragon Ball Z: Attack of the Saiyans had voices.

Re: Dragon Ball games that used voice actors?
I was bored, so I whipped up a list of every DB game to use voice clips. Not sure if you'd count recycled voice clips or not, I'm sure the voice actors didn't record anything new for at least one of these games. If anyone knows if the DBZ RPGs for the SNES had voice clips, please say if they do or don't. I'm not sure, so they aren't on this list.

Re: Dragon Ball games that used voice actors?
Why do people always say that? Adobansu usually means advanced. Game Boy Advance is a good example of the Japanese using advance (adobansu) to mean advanced. And Pocket Monsters: Advanced Generation is written Poketto Monsutā: Adobansu Jenerēshon (Click link to see logo). See? It's just the Japanese being weird. Just like how Americans say carry-okey instead of kahrah-okay, Japanese will say monsutā instead of monsutāzu, and adobansu instead of adobansudo.Taku128 wrote:DRAGON BALL: Adobansu Adobenchaa [GBA] (Dragon Ball: Advance Adventure, released November 18, 2004, retitled Dragon Ball: Advanced Adventure in America)

That's because Japanese nouns don't really have a plural.linkdude20002001 wrote:Taku128 wrote:Japanese will say monsutā instead of monsutāzu
Additionally, I believe if you lose in Super Goku Den: Kakusei-hen, you hear Freeza saying something. Unfortunately, it's been a while since I've either played the game or seen the Freeza saga, I'm not sure what it is, but I believe it's something of a catchphrase...? I dunno. Now I gotta go play the game.

Re: Dragon Ball games that used voice actors?
I know that Japanese doesn't have plural words, but my point was that seemingly English words in the Japanese language isn't always what we'd think it means. They do that all the time with words. "Get" (getto) is a good example of what I mean. Japanese will say "item get" to mean "got an item", and likewise, they'll say "advance adventure" to mean "advanced adventure". Does "Advance Adventure" even make sense to anyone? The adventure is advancing? What? Lol.

Re: Dragon Ball games that used voice actors?
It came out on the Game Boy Advance, which is the title of the system in both America and Japan. It's an Advance Adventure because it's an adventure on the Game Boy Advance. If the system was called the Game Boy Advanced you'd have a good argument, but it isn't. If the name of the system fucks it up you might as well be consistent with said name.

Well, I guess that makes sence... But it doesn't make "Advanced Adventure" wrong either. You can't really call something "re-named" when it's just a more accurate translation.

Coulda sworn it was written with our alphabet on the cover (the Japanese release, that is)... but apparently not.
Anyway, for some other precedents, you may want to look at things like Final Fantasy Advance which uses the exact same kana (アドバンス) and does write it out in our alphabet as "Advance" (without the trailing "d"). There's also Advance Wars... though that's Famicom Wars in Japan since it has a much-richer history

Re: Dragon Ball games that used voice actors?
Yeah. It completely makes sense to me. It's the Dragonball adventure on the Gameboy Advance. Not Gameboy Advanced. Naming schemes like that, as you likely know, are a tradition that started with SNES and carried on to Nintendo's other hardware when applicable.linkdude20002001 wrote:I know that Japanese doesn't have plural words, but my point was that seemingly English words in the Japanese language isn't always what we'd think it means. Advance Adventure was renamed Advanced Adventure in the US. Is it a big deal, though? Not really. It's just one letter. I just felt like showing how Advance Adventure makes sense to me.

I agree that "Advance Adventure" makes sense since it's on the Game Boy Advance. I guess my point was that "Advanced Adventure" is in no way an actual re-naming; it's just a different translation.

Yeah, all the Dragonball fighting games had their VAs do the voices, even the SNES ones, and yeah, Freeza says something if you die in that DBZ RPG game, I dunno what he says though.
