Hmm. That does make me wonder... what was Dragon Ball's level of popularity circa 1988? Actually, this is something I've always wondered. I know that the "Z" era raised its popularity immensely, so that's what fans remember and cherish the most, but how was it doing before that? If Toriyama had ended the series after Goku won the Tenkaichi Budoukai, would the series still be considered one of the pillars of Shonen Jump, practically printing money to this day?
