Show them Kai. Z's pacing is absolutely terrible for someone new to the series and will bore the shit out of 90% of normal people.

Ya' know, the pacing wasn't enough to keep a bazillion people worldwide from liking the show over the last 20+ years... Just sayin'...

It's hard to deny the awful pacing of Z. And keep in mind, that most people that got addicted to Z were kids and teenagers, who like explosions. So wouldn't anyone rather the "better" product (Kai censorship aside, of course)?

My GF was actually pretty disgusted by Kai. So I don't know, I also prefer Z over Kai. Kai is not a good product in my eyes. If anybody saw other revised series, they were done much better actually and without new revolutional technology which will make every second scene lookin' like s**t.

Me: "Hey, let's watch Kai together!"
BF: "I don't know, I'm not really into Dragonball..."
Me: "But first, Let me slip into something a little more comfortable... "

The pacing in DBZ isn't all that bad if you don't know what's going to happen next. The cliffhangers keep you coming back for more. It's after having already read it a buhmillion times that I tend to multitask while watching DBZ.

If you don`t know the story, then the cliffhangers will have the same effect in Kai that they had in Z. It wil just have a faster/better pacing.

I don`t like Kai because I feel it was a completely missed opportunity... They should have made a completely new anime. Also the redraws scenes are nothing special at all and I didn`t really like the censorship in Goku`s death.

But, objectively speaking, compared to Z, Kai has pretty much the same quality overall as an anime or is even better due to the faster/better pacing.

So, for newcomers to the Franchise, and for old fans who don`t mind skipping the filler, Kai works best.

Sure, kids and teenagers who watched the series once a week or so because the liked the fighting and action, didn't have a problem with the pacing and length of the show.

But to your average anime fan who watches 13 or 26 episode series, the 290+ episode behemoth that is DBZ just seems a bit long and stretched out. The 100 episode Kai just seems a bit more realistic to them.

And people who aren't anime fans who already have their prejudices about DBZ or anime in general aren't going to sit through entire episodes of muscle-bound men powering up.

My boyfriend watched on and off when it first aired on TV here, but couldn't get into it because of the horrible pacing and weeks it took to get anywhere. He has no interest in the series because of that.

However, we've started watching the movies stoned and... they're a hit.
... Maybe later.

You should try getting him on Kai. Sounds more like his cup of tea.

Basically was, had to be pretty careful not to fuck it up. Pretty great to be in a relationship where we casually make fun of Yamcha while drunk.

Not so much. I've offered it to him, but he has no real interest. Which is fine by me. He might read the manga one day, but probably not. And I don't mind. He doesn't need to watch or read it, just because I do.
... Maybe later.

I agree. Kai is -perfect- for newcomers. As a "veteran" I also prefer it to Z. The blood and cock censorship is not a dealbreaker for me, and the faster pacing/removed filler just makes it so much more enjoyable as a series than Z.

I made a compromise w/ my gf. I agreed to watch a season of something she liked (in this case, Full Metal Alchemist) and she'd watch the first "season" of DBZ with me. We swapped back and forth between discs. Disc of FMA, disc of DBZ, etc, etc. Whenever there was something that you needed knowledge of original DB to understand, I'd just pause the episode and give her the quickest, briefest explanation I could. By the time we got to the Vegeta fight, she was salivating for more.

I'd try and see if she would pick it up on her own. No need to force a long manga series on a female.
The series doesn't start with the arrival of Raditz. Stop being lazy and watch Dragonball.

Yeah, I mean those females with their weaker constitutions and daintier sensibilities. They might faint or start screaming hysterically because that's what females do, right?

Naw, I'm sure your comment was completely innoccuous. I'm just giving you a hard time.
