Who else's favorite arc is The Buu arc?
So, I've been watching my season seven and eight recently. And I love it! This arc has always been my favorite. The story, fights, everything's great! I'll agree, Goku not beating Fat Buu is kinda weak, but otherwise it's great! Anyone agree? Disagree? Why?

It's not my absolute favourite, but it's up there. The Babidi's ship part and the whole ending from Boo absorbing Gotenks onwards I don't really like. Although the Spirit Bomb succeeding, Satan helping out, and Vegeta's speech were nice.
Re: Who else's favorite arc is The Buu arc?
I have some gripes with the Buu Saga (mostly anything to do with the Supreme Kai), but I enjoy it. It had some of the best fights in the series, especially if we are talking about the anime version here.

The only part of the Boo saga I genuinely like.Amigo Ten wrote:Although the Spirit Bomb succeeding, Satan helping out, and Vegeta's speech were nice.

The Buu arc is my favorite, though I still acknowledge that it was the worst.
Re: Who else's favorite arc is The Buu arc?
Of all the arcs in the "Z" portion? Yeah, it's probably my favorite. I like how it marked a bit of a return to the goofiness of the earlier story.

Eh, it's my least favorite. It just felt like a bunch of stuff happening instead of an actual story arc.

Next to the Artificial Human arc, I would say it's my favorite. Like Kaboom said, some of the goofiness that had been left behind in Dragon Ball comes back, especially before Buu awakens with all the Great Saiyaman stuff.

Worst for me out of the Z portion, but that doesn't mean I disliked it. I liked the funny parts and the ending. When I say ending I mean Goku defeating Boo and Vegeta's speech, not the 28th Tenka'ichi Budoukai.

Anyone who liked the Buu Arc has officially lost all respect I never had for them.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with liking something that's usually taken as being "bad", as long as you don't let that skew your objective views on it.
Re: Who else's favorite arc is The Buu arc?
It's one of my favourites, mainly because the Cell arc was one of my least favourites, so something that reads like a parody coming right after that is just perfect.

That's okay. I never respected you, either.Scarz wrote:Anyone who liked the Buu Arc has officially lost all respect I never had for them.
In all truthfulness, I didn't hate the Boo arc. I really liked everything up before the tournament was interrupted. I wish that it would've been finished before Boo came along. That would've been really fun!
I like all the moments on Babidi's ship where the guys are just like, "Whatever. No big deal." I also like Gohan's fight against Boo after the Elder Kaioshin power-up. Vegetto's fight against Boo was pretty fun. I got a big kick out of the whole, "You need an entire minute to power up?!?!" conversation between Goku and Vegeta.
Let's also not forget that, in this arc, Mr. Satan actually had a part in saving the world by befriending Fat Boo early on and then convincing the people of Earth to contribute to the Genki Dama at the end. Those were fun times.
Also, there was Oob. Oob is awesome. I loved playing as him in Budoukai 3! I also love what they did with him and Kinto'un in the Kanzenban ending.

There is precisely one good thing about the Buu Saga.

Re: Who else's favorite arc is The Buu arc?
I thought that it was OK, but it was still the worst arc in Dragon Ball. The best part was the Great Saiyaman to the Budokai portion, and then it mostly lost the spark of the previous arcs. The Kaioshin that shouldn't have even been made a god's retardedness, the candy-assed faggot that is Boo abusing his regeneration that had already been used by a previous villain, the two little Saiyan brats who had been rewarded with Super Saiyan for doing absolutely fuck all, Kid Boo (up there with Broly in the Top 10 Worst Villains in DBZ History), etc, etc...
Vegetto was cool, I admit. Even if I didn't like the whole Fusion concept.

Re: Who else's favorite arc is The Buu arc?
The Buu arc was my favorite back when it was airing on Toonami, but now it's probably my least favorite. Don't get me wrong, it's still Dragon Ball so I still love it, but it -is- the weakest saga (well, with the exceptions of Super 17 and Garlic Jr). I mean you gotta love the Mr Satan/Fat Boo parts, they're hilarious. Also, I have to give Boo Saga huge kudos for introducing the concept of fusions, that was rad. Other than that, though... not the greatest.
Re: Who else's favorite arc is The Buu arc?
The Buu arc was AWESOME up untill majin buu actually showed up, then it started going downhill lol. My personal favorite arc in all of dragonball is the Pilaf arc when they first find the dragonballs. I just love that little guy lol.

Well It's not my favorite but I do love the Buu arc.... Mainly because It's the arc I've seen less of
Re: Who else's favorite arc is The Buu arc?
It's not my favorite part of the series (early Namek is), but it's up there. It's silly, but it's exactly where the story needed to go at that point for a number of reasons. Not to mention it's just damn entertaining.
On the surface, it's some pretty epic stuff. Goku and company have come so far that they're being recruited to fight a demon designed to kill the highest pantheon of gods. It's not a threat to the world, or even the galaxy, but to all of existence, and they're the ones to call on. Pretty cool.
But beyond that, the tone is just perfect. Someone else alread pointed it out, but the Cell arc, Terminator pastiche aside, takes itself way too seriously for its own good. The Buu arc is an excellent response to that. Everything in it is self parody, from Super Saiyan 3, to fusion, to Saiyaman, to Old Kaioshin, to the greatest threat in all existence being ... Buu. The early villains are hilariously non-threatening to the heroes, and it's refreshing to see something like that, just like the "Son Goku and Friends Return" special. It's all great. The Buu arc doesn't take itself seriously and neither should the readers/viewers.
Finally, it's unique in ways that the series never is before or afterward. Every single pre-Buu arc is, to an extent, formulaic. The villain trashes a few of the stronger characters, and we know we have to wait for the result of someone's training, or a new transformation, etc. The buildup is obvious, as is who will save the day.
The Buu arc completely turns that around. The new transformation doesn't stop Buu. Okay, well this fusion thing is really being built up; it must save the day. What, Gotenks failed? Okay, well Gohan's really rocking that Z Sword; surely that comes into play. It breaks? Well, there's no way they're going to build up Gohan's power-up without having him save the day. He bought it too? Okay, now Goku and Vegeta are fusing. This has to be it. Not even that did it?
And so after every single, heavily-built up dues-ex-machina has failed, we arrive at the final battle with Goku, Vegeta and Mr. Satan. Two characters who haven't improved since failing to defeat Buu at the beginning of the arc, and one ostensively useless one. We're at the conclusion with no new power ups, no results of training, no transformations, just two characters who have already tried and failed. That has to be the biggest "Oh shit" moment since Freeza showed up on a hill after Porunga died. The only comparable moment in the entire metaseries is Goku and Vegeta in the final battle against Ii Shen-long, but that doesn't have the build-up to make it work like it does here.
So, yeah. The Buu arc is a lot of fun. That, and the anime version has some of the best looking fights in the entire series.
Also, first post.
